Chapter 36
Alarickaโs voice was calm: โThis was our only condition, so donโt complain.โ
It was just like Tamika said. Alarickaโs rented place didnโt have an elevator, but luckily it was on the second floor, so moving the luggage was quick.
Even though it was in an old neighborhood and the building was old, the house had all the hardware it needed. The place had two bedrooms and a living room, not very big. They tidied up a bit and could move in pretty quickly.
Alaricka skillfully opened her backpack and took out her workbook.
Finals week was coming; she didnโt dare to relax.
At the Argentโs villa, Kieran just walked in, and the servants going in and out were moving a nightstand and got stuck at the door.
The servant was sweating all over and moved slightly to the side to let Kieran in.
โMr. Argent, sorry.โ
Kieran didnโt move, just stood at the gate, blocking the servants going in and out.
He recognized this nightstand; it was the one in Alarickaโs room, and there were still the cute stickers Alaricka had put on the cabinet door.
His brows furrowed slightly, and his voice was low: โWhatโs going on?โ
The servant avoided eye contact and said in a low voice, โIt was Sir Argentโs order; you can go ask him.โ
Kieranโs narrow black eyes had a strange pressure, like he was casually looking at the nightstand.
The servants were sweating all over their heads, scared by the pressure in Kieranโs eyes and voice.
Kieran stared for a long time, and they couldnโt figure out what Kieran was thinking, or whether they should go forward or back.
After a moment, Kieran shifted a bit and revealed a doorway you could walk right through.
The servant let out a sigh of relief and was about to carry the nightstand out when he heard Kieranโs voice again.
โPut it down.โ
The servant was startled: โBut this was what Sir Argent told us to do, said to throw out everything from Ms. Hustonโs room; weโฆโ
Kieranโs voice got deeper: โPut it back. Donโt make me say it again.โ
The servants glanced at each other and both saw the fear in each otherโs eyes.
They quickly lowered their heads and, following the way they came, put the nightstand back in Alarickaโs room.
The servant who was standing in the living room with the big bed also hurriedly put it back.
Alarickaโs room had pretty much been restored to how it was.
Kieran walked up to Wallaceโs study and knocked on the door.
An old voice of Wallace came from inside the door: โCome in.โ
Kieran pushed the door open and walked in. His eyes, hard to read, quickly glanced over the desk in the study. He got straight to the point: โWhere did Alaricka go?โ
Wallace took off his reading glasses; his cloudy eyes met Kieranโs gaze, and he said in a low voice, โShe just moved out; what should be there will still be there.โ
Kieran didnโt show much expression: โWhy did you make her move out?โ
At this point, Wallace was already a bit annoyed by Kieranโs questioning.
But for Kieranโs sake, he still explained in a low voice, โShe stayed here, but she didnโt get along with Clarissa or Holter. Keeping her here just caused trouble all the time, big or small. It gave me a headache.โ
Kieran pressed his thin lips together.
Even though he didnโt talk, Wallace understood the grandson he had raised himself.
Wallace suddenly smiled, a teasing look in his eyes: โI remember she didnโt get along with Roschelle. But now, you look like you donโt want her to leave.โ
Kieranโs eyebrows twitched a little: โThis wasnโt the same thing.โ
Wallace stopped smiling. โKier, Alaricka couldnโt stay here.โ
Kieran lifted his eyelids, his dark eyes meeting Wallaceโs cloudy ones.
Wallaceโs face darkened a bit: โKier, she just wasnโt one of the Argent family. You shouldโve thought about the Argent family in everything, not some outsider.โ
Kieranโs eyes narrowed a little.
Wallace looked away and stared out the window.
โKier, if you couldnโt let go, you could let her come back.โ
As he expected, Kieran turned down the offer.
Everybody knew, it was the same between Alaricka and the Argent family as it was between Alaricka and Roschelle.
Kieran only chose Roschelle and only chose the Argent family.
Kieran always knew what he was doing and what he had to do.
This was also Wallaceโs trust in him.
Roschelleโs family background was way better than Alarickaโs, and the help Roschelle gave Kieran was way better than what Alaricka could give.
Whether emotionally or materially, Roschelle was stronger than Alaricka.
Wallace waved his hand, โGet out, donโt bother me while Iโm reading.โ
