Drake froze mid-bite of his apple. Pointing to himself, he asked, “Debra wants me to foot the bill? I’m not her husband. She must’ve made a mistake.”

Kale explained, “Well, she sent a message saying that the machine only heats up and does nothing else. She’s already being kind by not reporting it to the authorities.”

Across town at the Potter Mansion, Erica examined Debra’s face. “Doesn’t look any different to me. Is this the effect of a five-figure beauty program?”

“Lowe brand—sold on name alone.”

The Lowe Group was infamous for its shady dealings in gambling, drugs, and other vices. It would take a miracle for them to develop legitimate beauty products. The company existed to scam gullible customers, pushing overpriced luxury beauty brands with celebrity endorsements and flashy ads while delivering next to no real results.

Erica clicked her tongue. “If it were me, I’d smash their store to pieces.”

“Why didn’t you bring me along?” Liza grumbled, descending the stairs. Being cooped up there for days, she looked bored out of her mind. Aside from Erica occasionally taking her out for food and drinks, there was nothing fun to do.

Debra looked up at her and asked, “Is your brother still refusing to eat or drink?”

“Yeah. He says this is house arrest. He’ll continue the hunger strike until you let him go home,” Liza replied.

“He’s torturing himself.” Debra shook her head and instructed a maid, “Please take two chocolate donuts up to Mr. Eaton. He loves them.”

Liza froze, not expecting Debra to know Garland’s preferences.

Erica chuckled, “He didn’t touch the food brought by the maid, but he didn’t starve himself. Everything missing from the fridge is logged, you know.”

Pulling out her phone, Erica scrolled through a list. “Let’s see: one drumstick, one chicken wing, one slice of chicken breast, and eight chocolate donuts from the freezer. The oven’s been used four times, and six bags of chips are gone from the snack cabinet. Oh, and according to the security footage, a delivery guy left food by the backyard fence three times. Fried chicken, KFC family bucket, roasted chicken, and rice.”

Debra listened in disbelief. “Seems like Mr. Eaton quite loves chicken.”

Liza blushed with embarrassment. Garland’s secret snacking was one thing. He hadn’t even shared it with her. She stomped her feet and rushed upstairs to confront him.

Debra heard the shouting from above and shook her head.

Erica muttered, “Did we make a mistake? They don’t look like bad people at all.”

She heard Garland’s wailing and added, “One’s got no sense, and the other’s sulking all day. If I were their father, I wouldn’t send them to handle any secret mission.”
