Chapter 1116

Drake didnโ€™t hear any noise downstairs.

โ€œHavenโ€™t Debra and Marion come in?โ€

โ€œThey should have.โ€

โ€œThen why hasnโ€™t anyone come to report to me?โ€

โ€œBoss, you said you werenโ€™t going to welcome them.โ€

Lately, Kale found it hard to figure out what Drake was thinking. One moment he was against something, and the next he was going along with it. The wedding was an example. At first, he said he wasnโ€™t going, but later, he did. Then there was this recent event. He didnโ€™t mean to hurt Marion, but he claimed that it was intentional.

Now, he was doing it again, inviting them over but refusing to welcome them.

โ€œYeah. I donโ€™t care if they stay or leave,โ€ Drake said, standing up. โ€œIโ€™m hungry. Tell someone to make dinner.โ€

He came downstairs, but Debra was nowhere to be seen. He glanced at Lara, who was still cleaning. โ€œHave they gone to their rooms?โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ Lara faltered, โ€œbut they went to the same room.โ€

Drake frowned. โ€œI told you to prepare two rooms. Why are they sharing?โ€

โ€œMrs. Houston said itโ€™s natural for a couple to share a room,โ€ Lara explained.

โ€œItโ€™s fine,โ€ Drake said. โ€œTell them to come down for dinner.โ€

Lara hesitated. โ€œMrs. Houston said theyโ€™ve already eaten. Plus, Mr. Houston is injured, so he wonโ€™t be coming down for meals anytime soon.โ€

โ€œGreat,โ€ Drake muttered, his appetite vanishing.

Debra had it all figured out, meals included. She was treating his place like a free recovery center.

He stood up. โ€œBring the food to my room.โ€

Kale, coming from the kitchen with the meal, was puzzled. โ€œBoss, youโ€™re not eating here?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll eat upstairs.โ€

โ€œAlright.โ€

A maid wheeled a cart of food into Marion and Debraโ€™s room. Debra eyed the dishesโ€”plentiful but not as fancy as before.

โ€œIs Mr. Lowe running low on cash?โ€ she asked.

The maid was baffled, and Debra explained, โ€œI remember the abalone and sea cucumber used to be endless. Now, thereโ€™s no ginseng in the chicken soup, no abalone in the braised pork, and no sea cucumber in the congee.โ€

The maid stammered, โ€œWell, Mr. Lowe said Mr. Houston shouldnโ€™t have seafood because of his injury.โ€

โ€œIs that so?โ€ Debra frowned, scooping some congee and feeding it to Marion. โ€œHoney, bear with it. Drake is stingy. Once weโ€™re back in Seamar City, Iโ€™ll make sure you get proper nourishment.โ€

โ€œOkay,โ€ Marion smiled indulgently.

The maid felt like a third wheel, standing there awkwardly.
