Chapter 1116
Drake didnโt hear any noise downstairs.
โHavenโt Debra and Marion come in?โ
โThey should have.โ
โThen why hasnโt anyone come to report to me?โ
โBoss, you said you werenโt going to welcome them.โ
Lately, Kale found it hard to figure out what Drake was thinking. One moment he was against something, and the next he was going along with it. The wedding was an example. At first, he said he wasnโt going, but later, he did. Then there was this recent event. He didnโt mean to hurt Marion, but he claimed that it was intentional.
Now, he was doing it again, inviting them over but refusing to welcome them.
โYeah. I donโt care if they stay or leave,โ Drake said, standing up. โIโm hungry. Tell someone to make dinner.โ
He came downstairs, but Debra was nowhere to be seen. He glanced at Lara, who was still cleaning. โHave they gone to their rooms?โ
โYes,โ Lara faltered, โbut they went to the same room.โ
Drake frowned. โI told you to prepare two rooms. Why are they sharing?โ
โMrs. Houston said itโs natural for a couple to share a room,โ Lara explained.
โItโs fine,โ Drake said. โTell them to come down for dinner.โ
Lara hesitated. โMrs. Houston said theyโve already eaten. Plus, Mr. Houston is injured, so he wonโt be coming down for meals anytime soon.โ
โGreat,โ Drake muttered, his appetite vanishing.
Debra had it all figured out, meals included. She was treating his place like a free recovery center.
He stood up. โBring the food to my room.โ
Kale, coming from the kitchen with the meal, was puzzled. โBoss, youโre not eating here?โ
โIโll eat upstairs.โ
โAlright.โ
A maid wheeled a cart of food into Marion and Debraโs room. Debra eyed the dishesโplentiful but not as fancy as before.
โIs Mr. Lowe running low on cash?โ she asked.
The maid was baffled, and Debra explained, โI remember the abalone and sea cucumber used to be endless. Now, thereโs no ginseng in the chicken soup, no abalone in the braised pork, and no sea cucumber in the congee.โ
The maid stammered, โWell, Mr. Lowe said Mr. Houston shouldnโt have seafood because of his injury.โ
โIs that so?โ Debra frowned, scooping some congee and feeding it to Marion. โHoney, bear with it. Drake is stingy. Once weโre back in Seamar City, Iโll make sure you get proper nourishment.โ
โOkay,โ Marion smiled indulgently.
The maid felt like a third wheel, standing there awkwardly.
