Chapter 20
Today was the day of Debraโs entrance exam. In his office, Juan glanced at the time on his computer and asked, โHas Debra gone to the exam?โ
โMrs. Nichols left early this morning. By now, she should have already entered the exam room,โ Joe replied.
Juan nodded. โDid you inform the principal?โ
โI did, butโฆโ
โBut what?โ
โThe principal said since Mrs. Nichols is taking the graduate entrance exam, thereโs no need for interference. He believes she wonโt pass.โ
โGraduate exam?โ Juan had thought Debra was taking the college entrance exam. He believed that Debra must be out of her mind.
โLet her be,โ Juan said indifferently. Debra could embarrass herself as she liked.
Debra arrived at the exam room. She was the youngest one there, catching the examinersโ attention. Most of the examinees were finance professionals nearing their thirties, some of whom Debra had seen on TV. It showcased the collegeโs reputation in finance education.
Shelia lingered in the hallway of the teaching building. Freshmen exams should be in this building, but she couldnโt find Debra in any of the rooms. She wondered if Debra had given up. Shelia breathed a sigh of relief. If so, it would save her a lot of trouble.
โShelia, what are you doing here?โ Carrie entered the building and spotted Shelia.
โI was about to go to Building Two for class. Letโs go together,โ Shelia said.
โBuilding Two is also an exam venue today. Letโs go to Building Three for class,โ Carrie said.
โReally?โ Shelia checked her phone and, indeed, Building Two was for graduate exams today. However, very few were admitted for postgraduate studies each year. Shelia was the only one in their junior year preparing for it, and she would have to wait until next year to take the exam.
Carrie suggested, โShall we go take a look? They say this yearโs questions are difficult. It might be good for you to get some insights.โ
โSounds good.โ There wasnโt much to do in todayโs classes anyway. They could ask Wendy to help with attendance.
โLetโs hurry then!โ Carrie grabbed Sheliaโs hand, and they ran to Building Two.
Shelia knew what Carrie was thinking. Carrie didnโt really want to check out the graduate exam questions; she wanted to meet wealthy people. Most students at this school came from wealthy families, and many who came to take the graduate exam were successful professionals in the industry.
Sure enough, halfway there, Carrie excitedly said, โI heard Mr. Jordan Potter is here too. There must be a lot of people going to watch. If weโre late, we might miss it.โ
Shelia couldnโt help but be curious. The Potter family owned the largest bank in Seamar City. Although they kept a low profile, there were rumors that their wealth was enough to build a new city.
Carrie looked around and suddenly exclaimed, โIt seems to be here.โ
Shelia looked over and saw a crowd outside the exam room. They were all eagerly watching what was happening inside.
โExcuse me!โ Carrie got through the crowd with Shelia, and as soon as they reached the door, Shelia saw Debra sitting at the front table.
