Chapter 23
Debra glanced at Juanโs phone. Juan rejected the call. โIf you donโt have babies soon, Iโll have to use extreme measures,โ Melody said. Juan remained silent; Melody had made her request clear long ago.
After Melody left, Debra spoke. โDid you call the school office?โ โYeah,โ Juan replied curtly. โYou told them not to give me special treatment, right?โ Debra asked.
โWhat? Are you asking for my help now? Want me to pull strings to get you into Arcane Academy?โ Juan snorted with disdain. โLet me tell you, even if I get you in, you wonโt graduate.โ
โI just hope you wonโt interfere. If you make the principal remove me from the admission list, donโt blame me for turning against you,โ Debra said sternly. Juan narrowed his eyes. This woman was becoming bolder.
Juanโs phone rang again. He answered impatiently, โSpit.โ โSir, Mrs. Nicholsโs grades are out.โ Juan sensed the staff memberโs hesitation and frowned. โI see.โ
Sitting across from Juan, Debra observed his expression. She realized someone had leaked her exam results early. โI didnโt expect you to cheat on the entrance exam for Arcane Academy.โ
โI passed, didnโt I?โ Debra ignored Juanโs words. From his expression, she knew she had passed. โSince I passed, donโt bother with how I did it. In public, we can be a model couple, but in private, donโt try to control me.โ Debraโs attitude was firm.
โYou can do whatever you want, but first, make sure you can handle Melody. If she finds out you got into Arcane Academy, I canโt protect you.โ
โItโs okay. We can just divorce,โ Debra said casually.
Chapter 23
Juan was displeased. These days, Debra mentioned divorce at the drop of a hat. However, the cooperation projects between the Frazier and Nichols families were ongoing. Divorce was out of the question.
โStop using divorce as a threat,โ Juan said. Debra remained silent. At this critical juncture, Juan would never divorce her; the Frazier family elders would object. Although the Frazier family still held some influence, it was hollow and would disintegrate within a few years. Without the Nichols familyโs support, it would soon collapse. Conversely, the Nichols family needed the Frazier familyโs connections and projects. Neither family could afford to break ties. Thatโs why Juan felt she was threatening him.
โSo, for the sake of our smooth cooperation, please keep Melody in the dark. Donโt let her hear any rumors, or else weโll have to get a divorce.โ Debra smiled at Juan, but he detected the seriousness in her tone. Outside, the night deepened. Marion sat at his desk, hanging up the call from the school office.
