Chapter 24
โHowโs it going?โ Randy asked.
โShe passed,โ Marion replied.
โShe passed? Really?โ Randy paused, finding it hard to believe. โYou didnโt use your connections, did you?โ
โShe got in by herself. It has nothing to do with me.โ
โOh my!โ Randy was astonished. โDebra is quite something. But wait, wasnโt her major linguistics? Thatโs not related to this at all.โ
โDebra is a language genius, a woman who got her masterโs degree at seventeen. Sheโs not stupid.โ The moment Debra secured that piece of land, he sensed her determination. Things started to get more interesting.
The next day, at noon, Debra leaned against the window, reading a finance book. Sophie knocked on the door, reporting, โMadam, the dressmaker and stylist are here. Is this the right time for you?โ
โIs there something?โ Debra asked.
โDonโt you attend the family banquet tonight?โ
Debra frowned. There had been too much going on these days, and she almost forgot about returning to her family that night. She rubbed her temples. If it werenโt for the monthly family banquet tradition, she wouldnโt be willing to go.
โI see. Send them in.โ Debra put down her book.
The Frazier family used to be a large clan, so they continued the tradition of holding a family banquet every month. And for this banquet, every member of the Frazier family had to attend.
โWhereโs Juan?โ
โMr. Nichols went out early this morning, probably for something important.โ
Debra took out her phone and dialed Juanโs number. He answered quickly.
โTonight is the Frazier familyโs banquet, and youโฆโ Before Debra could finish, Juan interrupted, โI have things to attend to.โ
โOkay, I see.โ Debra hung up.
Sophie advised, โWhy not talk to Mr. Nichols again? This is the first time youโve gone back to your family since you got married. If he doesnโt go with you, people might gossip.โ
In fact, Debra was aware of what she would face if Juan didnโt go with her. โItโs okay. Iโm used to it anyway.โ Even without Juan by her side, she wouldnโt be afraid of facing gossip from those nosy relatives.
As the sky darkened, Debra arrived at the Frazier family house. Most of the Frazier family members were already there. As soon as the gate opened, everyoneโs eyes fell on Debra. She was wearing a blue dress, looking elegant and noble.
โGuess whoโs back? Ms. Frazier,โ Rosalie Copeland mocked. โWhy didnโt Juan come with you? Did you guys fight? Iโve told you before; itโs much better to marry into the Copeland family. The Nichols family doesnโt seem to value you much.โ
โIsnโt the youngest in your family almost forty? These people like second marriages. I donโt have that preference,โ Debra retorted.
Rosalie gave her a stern look. Ralph Frazier nudged her, stopping her from saying more.
โDebra, donโt argue with Rosalie. Sheโs just worried you might be mistreated by the Nichols family.โ
Debra then softened her attitude.
