โ€œWhatโ€™s so urgent that it canโ€™t wait till morning?โ€ Shelia eyed Edgar skeptically. She didnโ€™t believe his story for a second. Men were all the sameโ€”if they werenโ€™t up to no good at home, they were sure as hell up to no good elsewhere.

Her gaze sharpened as she spotted a smudge of lipstick on his white collar. She reached out, grabbed his collar, and thrust it toward him accusingly. โ€œWhatโ€™s this?โ€

Edgarโ€™s mind flashed back to Debraโ€™s calculated lean-in, her smirk as she left him in the car. Heโ€™d been played. Sheโ€™d wanted Shelia to see this, to sow discord.

His hesitation was all Shelia needed. โ€œYouโ€™re unbelievable. You say you love me, but you wonโ€™t even touch me. Itโ€™s all a lie, isnโ€™t it? I knew you were cheating.โ€

โ€œJade, just listenโ€ฆโ€

โ€œNo! I wonโ€™t listen!โ€ she screamed. โ€œIโ€™m telling my dad. You donโ€™t love me. Itโ€™s all just a sham.โ€

Usually, her tantrums got her what she wanted, but not this time. As she turned to storm out, Edgarโ€™s hand shot out, sending her sprawling to the floor.

She looked up at him, shock etched on her face. โ€œYou pushed me?โ€

Edgar, always so careful with her, as if she were a precious gem, now loomed over her. His eyes were cold and distant. He crouched down, gripping her chin firmly.

โ€œMiss Blair?โ€ he sneered. โ€œYou barely deserve the title.โ€

Shelia was shocked. โ€œYouโ€ฆโ€

โ€œDo you think I wouldnโ€™t figure it out?โ€ he scoffed. โ€œYouโ€™re not Jade, but the daughter of a gambler, a murderer, and a liar. Turning you into Jade is already the biggest favor I could do. You should be kneeling and thanking me.โ€

Shelia was stunned. โ€œYou know?โ€

โ€œDo you think your petty tricks could fool me?โ€ Edgar snorted, releasing her chin with a disgusted shove.

She crumpled to the floor, fear gripping her heart. She thought she had covered everything well, but it turned out Edgar had known all along.

โ€œI thought you could play the part,โ€ he added, his voice dripping with disdain. โ€œBut youโ€™ve been nothing but trouble. And now, youโ€™ve hurt Michael. Youโ€™ve gone too far.โ€

โ€œIโ€”I just wanted to teach Debra a lesson,โ€ she stammered, clinging to his leg desperately. โ€œPlease, donโ€™t tell Declan Blair. If he finds out Iโ€™m not Jade, heโ€™ll send me back to prison.โ€

Edgar looked down at her, his expression icy. โ€œYou should be scared. Because if you keep pushing your luck, you might just end up like the real Jade.โ€

Sheliaโ€™s blood ran cold. She remembered the prisoner whoโ€™d asked her to contact Declan. Suddenly, the pieces clicked into place.

โ€œYou mean, you killed her?โ€ she whispered, horror-struck.
