Chapter 400
Henry parted the throng, creating a path for Debra and Juan. โCome with me,โ Juan said, striding towards the exit. Henry nodded at Debra, urging her to follow. She took a deep breath, steeled herself, and trailed after Juan.
โWhat do you want?โ Debraโs voice was as sharp as a freshly honed blade. She had hoped to leave Juan behind by coming to Potter Entertainment, but here he was, like a bad penny.
โLetโs talk in the car,โ Juan replied, opening the passenger door for her. Debra hesitated before sliding in, knowing Juanโs investment was no small matter. Henryโs earlier smiles had said it all. She had recently dealt him a blow via the McKinney Group, but he had bounced back like a cat with nine lives. There was more to Juan than met the eye, and she intended to find out what.
Debra buckled her seatbelt, bristling when Juan reached over to help. โI can do it myself.โ โAlright.โ The air in the car crackled with tension. Finally, Debra broke the silence. โWhat do you need?โ
โTodayโs your birthday.โ
โIs it? I hadnโt noticed.โ She could hardly remember when she last celebrated her birthday. Birthdays had lost their luster after her parents passed. As the sole heir to the Frazier fortune, she was expected to mark the day with grand celebrations, but the tradition had died with her parents.
She looked out the window, and Juan added, โIn the past, I didnโt make a big deal out of your birthday. This year, Iโd like toโฆโ
โMr. Nichols, before we were just engaged,โ Debra interrupted.
Chapter 409
In the past, she would eagerly follow Juan, but he avoided her with various excuses. She was aware yet foolishly pursued him. She clearly remembered, in her past life, that Juan had refused to spend her birthday with her. The following year, when Sheila was studying abroad, Juan canceled work to be with Sheila on her birthday. Thatโs when Debra realized that excuses were just excuses. If he truly cared, there wouldnโt be so many obstacles.
In her past life, Juan had given all his affection to Sheila, and she doubted his recent claim of never liking her.
The car pulled up to an amusement park, not the fancy restaurant Debra had expected. She turned to Juan, bewildered. โWhat are we doing here?โ
โI thought you might enjoy it.โ
โThis is boring.โ Debra turned on her heel, but Juan called after her, โThis investment is worth one billion, Debra. Let me celebrate your birthday properly today, and Iโll have Joe finalize the deal.โ
