Chapter 940
Debra pulled Marionโs hand away. โAlright, no more talk like that.โ
Outside, the night deepened. Lara stood at the gates of the Lowe Mansion, hesitating to enter. The security guards spotted her. โLara?โ
Lara froze. Her first instinct was to run away, but a glance toward the shadows revealed Marionโs men watching her intently. Caught between flight and surrender, she noticed a black car slowly emerging from the gates. Her gaze drifted to the figure in the back seat, and she stopped cold.
โJuan? What is he doing here?โ
Before she could make sense of it, Kale, who was escorting Juan out, noticed her presence. He demanded, โWhat are you doing back here?โ
Lara was startled and instinctively took a step back. Her face went pale as she stammered, โMr. Mclean, itโs Marion and Debra. They sent me back.โ
โSent you back?โ Kale was skeptical. โCome inside.โ
โOkay.โ Lara paused and explained urgently, โI didnโt tell them anything. They brought me back and left.โ
Kale didnโt even spare her a glance. โSave it for Mr. Lowe.โ
Lara trailed him into the estate. In the living room, Drake crouched low, holding a magnifying glass as he examined the dust in the grooves between the floor tiles. Rising to his full height, he turned to the cleaning staff. โThis spot isnโt clean. Do it over.โ
โMr. Lowe, weโve been cleaning all day,โ complained one of the cleaners.
The entire cleaning crew had been at his mercy ever since Marion had sent them over. Every time they thought they were done, Drake found some absurd excuse to make them start overโcracks in the walls, smoke residue in the bedroom, bird droppings on the air conditioning unit. The tiles already gleamed so brightly they could see their reflections, but quitting wasnโt an option.
Drakeโs sharp gaze swept over them. โDidnโt Marion pay you? If he hired you to clean, you clean until I say itโs done. If itโs such a burden, tell him to pay you more.โ
The cleaners lowered their heads, groaning inwardly about his fastidiousness. Satisfied with their silence, Drake finally shifted his attention to Kale and Lara. The moment he saw Laraโs face, his anger roared back to life. Narrowing his eyes, he took a deliberate step forward. โWhat brings you back?โ
Lara stammered in fear, โBoss, I didnโt say anything.โ
Drake stopped just inches away from her. โDid Debra ask you to deliver a message?โ
โNo,โ she whispered.
โNo?โ he snorted, turning back to the cleaners. โMarionโs people messed up the garden out front too. Go clean it up.โ
The cleaners were stunned, and he added, โAnd mop the floors three more times.โ
