Chapter 18
She finished her sentence in broken pieces.
โI will,โ he replied. After all, he had promised her. Having seen her drunk, he felt obligated to fulfill her wish and release those people.
He took the glass from her hand and drank from it. She must have been very drunk; otherwise, she wouldn't have called him "Jay" again. He hadn't realized how much he enjoyed hearing her say it. The gentle way she said "Jay" made him feel seen, someone waiting for him in the darkness that enveloped him.
She smiled sweetly, then slumped against him as if completing a mission. Her arms curled around his neck. โJason, Iโmโฆ Iโm so sleepy. I feelโฆ like sleepingโฆโ
She mumbled before falling asleep in his arms.
He looked down at the sleeping woman. When sober, she was always on guard. Now, asleep, her defenses were down.
โSis, you look much cuter when youโre drunk,โ he mumbled, lifting a hand to sweep away a stray hair from her forehead. Her cheeks were a shade of camellia red from the wine. Her almond eyes were closed, but this emphasized her curved lashes, tiny nose, and supple lips. She looked incredibly attractive.
His heart pounded faster. Jason lowered his eyelids before reaching for his jacket. He draped it over her, then carried her from the room.
Her face remained buried in his embrace as she slept soundly. In the car park, Terrence waited by the car and respectfully opened the door.
Jason carried Grace into the car.
Not far away, two people walked toward the car park. Witnessing the scene, Brian raised his eyebrows in disbelief.
โLooks like Jason has a woman now. The way heโs carrying her so carefully suggests sheโs important to him,โ he observed.
Evelyn, who saw the same thing, had a different thought. She hadn't seen the woman's face, but she recognized her shoes. Grace had the same pair.
โDonโt tell me thatโs Grace?!โ
She recalled seeing Grace and Jason together at Grace's rented house. Unease stirred in Evelyn's heart.
Jason's car left the car park, and Evelyn followed Brian into his.
โBrian, earlierโฆ Was that Jason, president of Reed Group?โ Evelyn asked pointedly.
โYes,โ Brian replied dryly.
โThenโฆ do you know who he was carrying?โ she pressed.
He turned his head, his gaze meeting hers. โWhy? Are you curious? If you want to know, why don't you ask him next time you see him?โ
She lacked the courage. โI was just curious,โ Evelyn said with a sheepish smile.
