Chapter 293
Grace remembered only the first three and last digits of the license plate number. A wave of coldness washed over her. What had happened? Who were the people in the car? Why had they taken Lina?
Was this kidnapping? She instinctively reached for her phone, wanting to call her best friend, but hesitated. She didn't know what situation Lina was in; calling might make things worse. Her hands trembled so violently she could barely hold the phone.
With difficulty, she dialed 110 to report the incident to the police. Afterward, she rushed to the parking lot management office. The parking lot had surveillance cameras; there should be footage of the car taking Lina.
Nothing could happen to Lina. That was all that mattered.
Jason answered Grace's call, hearing only her sobs. His heart leaped. "What happened? Say something!"
"Jason, please help me find Lina I'm begging you," she cried, desperate after reporting to the police. Her fingers subconsciously dialed his number—the number on the phone he'd bought her.
Jason frowned. "Did something happen to Lina Sweeney?"
"She was taken. I don't know where The police were here. The parking lot cameras are broken Jason, please help me. I beg you," she stammered.
He could feel her panic. She usually called him Mr. Reed; now it was "Jay." This spoke volumes.
"Where are you?" he asked.
"I I'm in front of the police station," she choked out. She'd been told she could leave after filing the report, but Lina was still missing.
"Which police station?"
She gave him the address. "Go wait inside. I'm coming."
He found her on the steps, clutching her phone. Tears streamed down her face; her eyes were red and her complexion pale. Despite it being almost May, the night air was still cold.
He hurried to her, taking her hand. It was freezing. The veins on the back of her hand bulged as she gripped her phone.
"Didn't I tell you to stay inside? Why are you standing outside?" His tone was mildly displeased. She was neglecting her own well-being; didn't she know she could get sick?
