Chapter 316

Grace looked shocked. "What did you say?"

"Did you not hear me?" Jason repeated patiently. "I said, since you don't like that company, I might as well get rid of it."

He spoke as if it were an ordinary matter.

Get rid of it?!

Grace's pupils constricted. Could she have misheard him? The company was a newcomer in the food delivery industry. While not as established as its competitors, it had performed well recently and had just secured another $1.7 billion in funding.

How could such a company be so easily dismissed?

However if it was Jason, then the impossible became possible.

"Just because I don't like it?" she asked, staring at him in shock.

He smiled. "I also don't like people who betray others. A company leader who profits from betrayal probably won't succeed, even without my intervention." He paused, correcting a grammatical error. "In that case," he continued, "the company's survival is at stake. He laughed, discussing the company's fate with a casualness that would shock its CEO. She likely wouldn't have made the same decision if she had understood the consequences.

"Right, why aren't you eating your vegetables? Eat," he said, using his chopsticks to add vegetables to her bowl.

He seemed both gentle and caring.

However, she knew it was an illusion. Others would never guess his true natureโ€”capable of both extreme kindness and ruthless cruelty.

Grace ate mechanically, the delicious food tasteless.

"Are you sure you don't want me to find you a job? You could do whatever you want; even return to your old job," Jason offered.

"It's all right. I can find a job myself," she replied.

The air grew cold, and she felt his gaze even without looking up.

After a moment, Jason spoke. "All right. If you insist, then do as you please."

Only when she heard his footsteps receding did Grace breathe a sigh of relief. She looked at the dining table. Half a bowl of rice remained where he had sat.

He hadn't even finished his dinner.

Had her answer annoyed him? She dismissed the thought; she'd likely annoyed him from the start by refusing to stay with him.

Her fingers were almost healed, butโ€ฆ she couldn't leave.

When could she leave? It seemed that the longer she stayed, the stronger the bond between them became.

When Lina Sweeney awoke, she saw an unfamiliar ceiling and the dim light of a crystal chandelier.
