Chapter 356
He had always considered Evelyn a substitute for the little girl he'd met years ago. Evelyn's lips resembled the girl's. However, that perception slowly changed. Sometimes, listening to Evelyn talk about Grace calmed his distress.
Grace, however, was clearly not the girl who had saved his life. Perhaps it was Grace's resemblance to that girl that caused him to treat her differently, drawing him to her. Yet, Jason desired Evelyn, and Brian saw no reason to offend Jason over a woman, especially since she wasn't the girl he sought.
As his car crossed an intersection, Brian glanced at the street, subconsciously noticing sanitation workers. Grace was responsible for sweeping that very street! But even after leaving the area, he didn't see her.
Disappointment flickered in his phoenix eyes. Was she off work? Had something come up? Brian hadn't realized how much he was speculating about her absence. When had he ever pondered a woman so much, aside from the girl in his memories?
At a red light, as Brian prepared to look away, he saw a figure on an electric bike, also stopped at the intersection. The person was slender, riding a men's bike with a large delivery box bearing the words "Yan Yan Restaurant."
Brian was momentarily stunned. Before he knew it, the light turned green, and the figure rode away to the right.
"Follow that delivery bike!" Brian instantly instructed the driver.
"Mr. Hart, we're on a straight road; we can't turn," the driver replied, pointing out the cars ahead. Even attempting a turn would be impossible.
Brian chuckled. What was wrong with him? He'd just impulsively asked to follow Grace. She was merely a woman. Was it necessary to go to such lengths? Regardless of her resemblance to the little girl, he shouldn't care so much. After all, she was Jason's girlfriend.
With that thought, Brian withdrew his gaze, leaned back, closed his eyes, and said, "Go back to the office."
His hand unconsciously went to his chest. He touched the silver bracelet on its platinum chain, its position against his heart feeling strangely warm.
Did letting go once mean letting go forever? When would he find the girl who saved him? He regretted letting her go. When had finding her become such an obsession?
