Chapter 359
Evelyn's excitement grew as she considered the situation. Suddenly, her fingers brushed against something hard. She saw it was the silver bracelet he always wore.
She stared at the bracelet on his chest—an ordinary bracelet. Why did he always wear it? He treated it like a valuable treasure.
Evelyn picked it up for a closer look. But the next second, a hand seized hers. A sharp pain shot through her wrist, forcing her to release the bracelet.
Evelyn groaned, her eyes meeting his. He was drunk, but his eyes were startlingly bright and clear, not clouded by intoxication.
"You can't touch this," he said, his voice icy.
"I… I won't do it again," Evelyn stammered. "I just wanted to help you get comfortable. I didn't mean to, Brian. Please… please let go…" Pain contorted her face; sweat beaded on her forehead. Her wrist felt as if it might break.
Brian released her hand and closed his eyes, sinking back onto the bed. "You should go," he said.
"But I want to stay and take care of you tonight. You're drunk, and the servants are asleep…"
He interrupted her. "Go. Don't make me repeat myself."
Evelyn gritted her teeth, her chance lost. She dared not protest and left his room, disappointed.
Alone, Brian lifted a hand, his long fingers rubbing his temple. He was still slightly drunk, having had too much to drink. He felt agitated and frustrated, but couldn't pinpoint the reason. Was it seeing Grace that morning? Images of her riding away on her electric bike kept flashing in his mind.
That woman was wanted by Jason; he wouldn't bother competing with him. He didn't want her anyway. Even if he kept her, she'd just be a replacement.
This thought brought a pang of pain to his chest, a premonition of something. Brian chuckled absently. He'd simply had too much to drink.
