Chapter 391
He probably should have been nicer to her, knowing how capable she was, but Tony Cummins couldn't regret it now.
After hearing her husband's words, Melinda Riley scoffed. "How did Jason fall for an ex-convict like her? She killed his fiancée!"
"How would I know?" grumbled Tony Cummins.
"Hey, she'll probably be kept a secret anyway," said Melinda Riley. "Unlike Evelyn, who's official Evelyn can marry into the Hart family. Wasn't it Evelyn who gave us the money for this trip?"
Tony Cummins felt slightly better thinking of his youngest daughter. His only hope now rested on her.
Jason handed the phone back to Grace, his eyes fierce. "What do you want me to do to your father?"
He asked with a smile, but she saw the fierceness in his eyes. Grace knew he would do whatever she asked.
However, she said, "It's alright. It's good for both of us that things ended this way." Her father had killed the last shred of affection in her heart. She'd thought he'd still have some affection for her mother. After all, her parents had married for love, and her mother had married him at his worst.
Now she realized it was wishful thinking. Time was the worst enemy. No matter how deeply in love they once were, nothing remained after so many years.
Jason frowned. Grace lowered her eyes; a hint of sarcasm and sorrow played on her gentle face. It was as if something was slipping away, something he couldn't grasp.
Suddenly, almost unconsciously, he held her. Now that she was warming to him, he didn't want to let her go.
Grace stood still, falling into his embrace. A moment later, he held her so tightly she gasped for breath.
"Jason…" she cried.
Her voice made him tremble, and he loosened his hold slightly, but he still held her.
"Call me Jay. I love hearing you call me Jason," he murmured. His elegant voice, slightly hoarse, reached her ears and touched her heart.
She hesitated, then uttered, "Jay."
A smile touched his lips. "That sounds so good."
She stared at his smile, incredulous. A simple cry from her had made him happy and satisfied.
