Chapter 421
These days, he slept in the same bed with her in the bedroom. Although they did nothing, sharing the space had become an unconscious habit.
Grace needed the lights on to sleep, so she said euphemistically, "You can't seem to get used to me keeping the lights on. Perhaps you should sleep in your own room."
Jason replied, "I want to sleep with you, Sis. I'm more comfortable. The lights don't bother me."
Grace decided to keep her next few thoughts to herself. Jason's words, however, were… rather forward! Didn't he realize they could spark inappropriate fantasies?
"Are you going to sleep?" Jason asked, watching her walk toward the bed.
"Yeah," Grace replied, flustered.
She lifted the quilt and got in. Jason immediately wrapped his arms around her waist, hugging her tightly. He buried his face in her chest like a spoiled child.
He seemed childish, unlike his usual self. However, Grace inexplicably found his childishness endearing.
"By the way, what did Brian say to you today? Did you argue?" Grace suddenly remembered.
"Which part?" Jason asked; holding her felt intensely addictive. Once he held her, letting go was difficult. He wanted to remain close, enveloped in her presence.
"When he said he didn't want to be your enemy," Grace clarified. Brian and Jason had always been close; those words sounded more like a rivalry.
If the Hart and Reed families truly were enemies, Grace envisioned a financial and film industry crisis in Emerald City.
"He meant it literally," Jason responded.
"But there's always a reason," Grace questioned. "Are you two competing for a business deal?"
"No, we're competing for you," Jason retorted.
Grace nearly choked. Competing for her? He had to be joking, right?
Jason slowly lifted his head and looked into her eyes. His dark pupils, as always, seemed to blend with the night. "He's interested in you and wants to steal you away. So I told him that if he makes a move, I'll make him my enemy. And I won't hesitate to destroy him."
Grace stared at him, dazed, a storm brewing in her heart. "Are you really… going to do that to Brian?" she asked naively, aware of the potential consequences.
"I've told you before. I love you. You're as important to me as my own life. Did you think I was joking?" Jason asked.
Grace bit her lip, her almond-shaped eyes widening in shock.
Unbeknownst to her, her expression was enough to make anyone's heart race and ignite a desire to possess her.
Jason gently stroked her lips.
