Chapter 437

Reflecting on her past, Grace realized her wardrobe consisted solely of work clothes and attire Sean Stevens preferred. She possessed few clothes she genuinely liked. She hadn't done much for herself; her time was spent pleasing others.

"I wish I'd known you earlier," Jason mumbled. He believed an earlier meeting would have led to a better beginning. She wouldn't have endured three years of imprisonment, and he wouldn't have feared her discovering certain truths.

Grace sensed a depth of emotion in Jason's gaze that she didn't understand.

"Alright, let's go." He took her hand, and they went downstairs. Because she was having a health checkup, she had to fast until it was completed.

Jason led Grace to the car. He noticed she was wearing the hair tie he'd bought her yesterday—a simple black one, but an improvement over her old tie, where the inner white rubber band was showing. This small detail brought him comfort.

He felt a pang of heartache. She was so important to him, yet he hadn't noticed these things before? The thought of him noticing her hair tie yesterday caused a fresh wave of emotion. He'd never experienced such feelings. She was the only one who could evoke the frustrating realization: "I'm so filthy rich, yet I let her wear such worn-out hair ties."

If she hadn't gone to prison, none of this would have happened. While he wasn't solely responsible for her current poverty, he was partly to blame.

"Is this hair tie good?" Jason casually asked.

"Not bad," Grace replied. The price was high, but the quality far surpassed those she bought from street vendors.

"That's good. Later, I'll have someone buy a few other brands for you to try. That way, you can compare."

"There's no need. The ones we bought yesterday will last a long time," Grace immediately responded.

"Consider it me spoiling you a little. Can't I? It's normal for a boyfriend to buy things for his girlfriend, regardless of the amount, isn't it?"

Grace's heart skipped a beat; a wave of sweetness washed over her.

'Spoil me a little?' She thought, 'Besides my mother, no one has ever said that to me. Not even Sean Stevens.' Sean had bought her designer goods, but never used those words. She'd assumed his actions were a display of affection.

Now, she suspected Sean Stevens merely wanted her to match his social standing. Although she told herself to be strong and self-reliant, deep down she longed for someone to spoil her occasionally.

At the hospital, Jason took Grace to the health screening center. He'd booked a VIP package, eliminating the need to queue. They proceeded directly to the VIP section.
