Chapter 438
Upon arriving at the VIP area, a person in charge greeted them. Grace simply followed the nurse to have blood drawn, an X-ray taken, and an ultrasound, among other procedures. Jason waited patiently for Grace in the VIP lounge.
While Grace followed the nurse through various departments, she noticed several with long queues. The nurse explained that these were patients from other organizations undergoing check-ups, resulting in overcrowding.
As they approached the ultrasound room, Grace noticed long queues outside other rooms. However, the nurse led Grace to another door with no queue.
Suddenly, a voice called, "Grace!"
Grace turned to see Andrea Schwartz waiting in one of the lines. Surprised to see her, Grace wondered if Andrea was also there for a check-up. Looking closer, Grace recognized several familiar faces from her former law firm in Andrea's queue. What a coincidence! Her ex-colleagues were also having check-ups.
Andrea Schwartz spoke briefly to someone beside her, then left the queue and hurried to Grace. "I didn't expect to see you here. Are you here to deliver food?"
"No, I'm here for a check-up."
"A check-up…" Andrea Schwartz looked at Grace. Grace wasn't dressed as she usually was when delivering food; she looked much younger. "That's true. You haven't had a health check-up since you were released. You should have a proper one."
Andrea then feigned kindness and sighed. "The queue is quite long today. I considered letting you cut in line to save time, but that wouldn't be fair to others. I'm truly sorry."
Grace found this amusing. A genuinely apologetic Andrea wouldn't have mentioned it at all.
"There's no need to apologize. I wouldn't jump the queue anyway," Grace replied.
The nurse beside Grace said, "Ms. Cummins, shall we proceed to the ultrasound room? The doctor is waiting."
"Okay," Grace responded, following the nurse to the nearby ultrasound room.
Andrea Schwartz was dumbfounded. What had just happened? Why had the nurse taken Grace directly to the ultrasound room? She had previously inquired about the lack of a queue and learned the room wasn't for regular patients. So why was Grace now inside?
Andrea returned to her queue with a gloomy expression. A colleague asked, "Andrea, is that the senior associate from our firm who was later imprisoned? She's here for a check-up too? Why wasn't she at the back of the queue? She went straight in!"
"Who knows?" Andrea pursed her lips.
Her colleague continued, curiously, "Andrea, is that senior associate now a food delivery person since her release? I heard rumors at the firm."
"Yes. She's delivered food to our firm a few times. I'll order from her shop again on Monday. Consider it supporting her business," Andrea said, smiling outwardly. Inwardly, however, she plotted to embarrass Grace that day.
