Chapter 439

"Grace shouldn't have always tried to upstage me," she thought. "Everyone at the firm treated her like a hotshot and me like I was invisible. Now, I'm going to make Grace 'famous' again. I'll let everyone see how their best female lawyer is living her life now. I'll let them know how wrong they were!" This seemed the only way to quell her anger.

At that moment, a nurse walked past. A colleague stopped her, asking, "Earlier, one of your staff said regular patients can't access the ultrasound room, but I saw a nurse escorting someone in. What's going on?"

"Oh, that was one of our VIP package customers," the nurse replied.

"A VIP package? How much does that cost?" the colleague asked, surprised.

"It depends on the package," the nurse explained. "The cheapest are a few thousand, while the most expensive can reach several hundred thousand. For more information, visit the counter on the sixth floor." The nurse then left.

The colleague looked puzzled and turned to Andrea Schwartz, who was equally shocked.

"Andrea, are you sure the senior associate is only doing food delivery? A few thousand dollars for the cheapest packageโ€”that's not something an ordinary person could afford."

"How is that possible!" Andrea exclaimed, her face contorting. "How can she be a VIP customer?"

"But didn't she go into the ultrasound room for a check-up?" the colleague pointed out.

At that moment, several other colleagues from the firm looked over at Andrea. Realizing she'd lost her composure, she quickly recovered, forcing a smile. "There must be a misunderstanding," she said.

Internally, however, she wondered, "How did Grace afford the VIP package? Where did she get the money?"

Inside the room, the radiologist was performing Grace's ultrasound. When scanning her uterus, the doctor frowned.

"Ms. Cummins," the doctor said, "have you experienced any significant abdominal trauma?"

Grace's heart sank. "Yes," she replied. "I received treatment. The doctor said my uterus was severely damaged, and the damage is irreversible." Even with good health habits and medication, her body would never fully recover. Furthermore, her time in prison had prevented proper nutrition.

"Do you have children?" the doctor asked abruptly.

"No" Grace said, a wave of disappointment washing over her. The three years in prison had taken everything from her; the inability to have children felt like a final, crushing blow.
