Chapter 440
That was the darkest period of her life. She felt there was no reason to live. If not for Lina's frequent visits, she wouldn't be alive today.
The doctor sighed. "Let the gynecologist review your report and see what we can do."
"What we can do?" Grace was stunned. "Are there other options?"
"You're still young. We can't say there's no chance. Besides, in medicine, nothing is absolute."
Hope began to bloom in Grace's heart. Even if it was a tiny spark, it was still hope. If her uterus could be treated, could she have a child? Jason's face filled her mind. If she could have a child, the father would beโฆ
"Alright, we're done. You can get up," the doctor interrupted her daydream.
She rose from the examination bed and adjusted her clothes, her heart racing from her thoughts. Sheโฆwanted a child with Jason?
Grace followed the nurse from the ultrasound room. She didn't need to wait for her report; it would be sent to her consulting doctor, who would determine which specialist she needed to see.
Unexpectedly, Andrea Schwartz, still in the queue, approached her again. "Did you buy the VIP health check-up package? You're a food delivery personโhow can you afford it?" she loudly questioned.
Grace regarded Andrea with amusement. Andrea acted like a prosecutor demanding answers.
"That's my business. I don't need to explain," Grace retorted.
Andrea, realizing her overbearing tone, attempted a different approach. "I'm just worried about you. You've recently been released from prison. You need to be careful; we lawyers are sensitive to these things."
Grace's cold gaze made Andrea uncomfortable. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Nothing. You look like you hope I'll run afoul of the law again," Grace replied.
Andrea nearly choked. "H-how can that be? We're ex-colleagues. I wish you well."
"Is that so? But you constantly mention my prison past in front of others, as if you want everyone to know," Grace said bluntly.
Andrea's face flushed with embarrassment. Her colleagues from the law firm, also in the queue, overheard. Some looked thoughtful, watching the unfolding drama.
"Iโฆ That's becauseโฆ" Andrea stammered, unable to formulate an excuse.
"A lawyer should know the law judges objectively. Even if someone committed a thousand past crimes, it doesn't mean they're guilty now. But you seem to have already labeled me guilty. That's unprofessional," Grace stated coldly.
Her sharp words deepened Andrea's blush. Grace had questioned her professionalism, and Andrea had no defense.
