Chapter 447

"Sure," replied Grace.

Putting away her phone, Grace heard Jason. "Was that Lina Sweeney?"

"Yes."

"Why? Did she ask Hadwin Stephenson to help with your case?"

"Not really," Grace said. "She asked Stephenson to investigate a witness in S City. He's in detention, and she said Stephenson has ways of making him talk. I'm going to S City tomorrow."

Though Lina didn't elaborate, Grace, a former lawyer, understood the implications. It wasn't easy to interview a detained man. Lina couldn't have done it herself; it was likely Stephenson's work.

This was clearly her business, yet she was again indebted to Lina through Stephenson. How much did she owe Lina? Would she ever be able to repay her? The thought weighed heavily on Grace. She didn't notice Jason's glinting eyes.

"I'll go with you tomorrow," Jason said.

"It's okay, I'll go with Lina," Grace replied.

"You're my girlfriend. Why would that bother me? It's settled. I'm going with you tomorrow," Jason said firmly, his grip tightening on the steering wheel. He was making calculations.

Later that night, while Lina was scheduling their trip with Grace, Grace mentioned, "Oh yes. Jasonhe wants to go too."

"What?" Lina was stunned. "He's going too?"

"Yes, is that okay?" Grace asked.

"Not inconvenient at all. Just one extra person, butwhy not travel together? It's easier to talk in one car. You can take turns driving."

"Sure, I'll talk to him," Grace said, a tension settling in her heart after the call.

Could she extract the truth from the witness, Mr. You, tomorrow? Would she learn why he testified about her drinking and who was framing her? She could uncover the truth for others' cases, but not her own. How ridiculous and pathetic.

In the Reed Residence study, Jason instructed Terrence, who'd hurried over, "Go to S City. The police arrested a man named You—a witness in Grace's case. She's seeing him tomorrow. Tell him what to say, and what not to say."

"Yes," Terrence replied, then hesitantly asked, "Aren't you going to tell Miss Cummins the truth, Young Master Reed?"
