Never Truly Over Chapter 21
Chapter 21
Quinn scolded herself to shake off the sleepiness. “I can’t sleep anymore!” she thought. But despite her efforts, she quickly succumbed to the comforting embrace of sleep once more. She didn’t sleep long this time before they arrived at their destination.
Cameron gently roused her, and seeing her flushed cheeks and bashful expression made him chuckle. As the boat docked, Quinn noticed a crowd waiting on the pier. She assumed they were just tourists visiting the island and paid them no mind. Once they stepped onto the shore, she realized these "tourists" were lined up on either side, and a middle-aged man, Brandon Taylor, stepped forward to greet Cameron.
“Mr. Sutton, welcome!”
“Hello,” Cameron said, nodding coolly. His tone was calm and distant.
Brandon glanced at Quinn, a smile spreading across his face. “This young lady looks familiar. Have we met somewhere before?”
Cameron turned to Quinn, his expression unchanging. “Do you know him?”
Quinn shook her head gently. “I don’t recognize him.”
“Oh, I recall! I saw you on TV. You look just like that famous actress!” The man laughed and led them to a battery-powered sightseeing car to take them further into the island.
Quinn knew Brandon was just complimenting her and smiled shyly in response. Although Moon Island had yet to be fully developed, it was open to the public. Some locals had cleaned up their homes and started running seafood restaurants there.
As they drove, Brandon excitedly detailed Moon Island’s potential for development, speaking animatedly as if he couldn’t stop. Quinn sat in the back, listening with half an ear while her eyes wandered, taking in the island’s natural beauty. The lush tropical rainforest was filled with towering trees, and some small cabins were hidden among the foliage. If it weren’t for the signs advertising the guesthouses, she might not have noticed them.
After about twenty minutes of driving south, they arrived at the famous Gem Beach. The beach had been prepared to welcome Cameron, with music, lounge chairs, beach volleyball, a buffet, and a lineup of bikini-clad women—quite a sight for sore eyes.
“Ms. Sutton, Ms. Lawson!” Harry suddenly appeared from nowhere, holding a coconut and wearing beach shorts, grinning broadly.
“W. Campbell, weren’t you supposed to be sleeping at the hotel?” Quinn was surprised to see him.
Marcy handed her the coconut with a pained expression. “Yeah, we had a day off planned, but here I am, back at work.” He kept stealing glances at Cameron as he spoke.
Quinn felt a wave of confusion wash over her. They had left the hotel before Harry; how had he gotten to the island before them? Could it be that Cameron had deliberately slowed down on the way because she had fallen asleep, or maybe even taken a detour? That seemed unlikely. He wouldn’t waste his time just for her sake, would he?
Quinn chided herself not to overthink it as she shook her head.
“If you’re not happy, you can pack your things and leave right now,” Cameron coldly remarked, shooting Harry an indifferent look.
“Not at all! I’m thrilled! How could I possibly complain? If it weren’t for Mr. Sutton, I wouldn’t see so many beautiful women!” Harry replied, instantly adopting a sycophantic demeanor.
Quinn couldn’t help but smile at the sight. She never expected the usually serious Harry to be so playful when off duty.
