Never Truly Over Chapter 22
Chapter 22
“Stop joking around. Who else is here?” Cameron scanned the couch area, finally focusing on a makeshift canopy nearby.
There, under the canopy, a lively game of Texas Hold’em was unfolding, surrounded by a group of women in vibrant bikinis, adding to the cheerful atmosphere.
“That bald guy over there is the biggest contractor in town. Next to him are some government officials and engineers from the design firm. That old man over there is the chairman of Pinnacle Group, our biggest competitor. They’ve really invested heavily this time, and even the chairman is personally involved. It looks like Moon Island is quite a lucrative opportunity.
Thankfully, I got wind of this party in time. Otherwise, we might have missed out on the project altogether,” Harry explained as he led Cameron toward the canopy.
Quinn understood that Cameron was there for business, so she didn’t dare interrupt. Instead, she quietly stepped aside, finding a cool spot to sit and enjoy a fresh coconut.
When Cameron arrived at the canopy, everyone paused in surprise, putting down their cards.
Brandon, who had picked them up at the dock, immediately introduced him: “Everyone, I’m sure you all know Mr. Sutton. We’ve gathered here today for no purpose but to enjoy ourselves.”
“Bran, that’s where you went wrong. If you informed Mr. Sutton, why didn’t you let us know ahead of time? Were you trying to surprise us?” Russo Davies, the chairman of Pinnacle Group, puffed on a cigar, exhaling a cloud of smoke.
Upon hearing this, Bran quickly waved his hands. “That’s a misunderstanding! I only found out an hour ago.”
“So, are you saying Mr. Sutton showed up uninvited?” As Russo’s words hung in the air, a tense atmosphere began to spread.
Cameron’s indifferent expression shifted slightly as he gave Russo a cold smile, his deep gaze fierce enough to make anyone look away. “Are you afraid of me, Mr. Davies?”
Russo felt the heat rise to his face. “That’s ridiculous! Why would I be afraid of you?”
“Afraid that my presence means Pinnacle Group will have nothing to do with the Moon Island project,” Cameron said, his hands lazily tucked into his pockets. His laid-back tone contrasted with Russo’s tense demeanor, making it clear who held the upper hand.
“Being confident is a good thing. Since you’re so confident, how about we make a bet? Pinnacle Group will withdraw from the Moon Island development project if you win. If you lose, you step back from it altogether. How about it?” Russo suggested, discreetly signaling to the dealer beside him.
The dealer nodded subtly in response.
“Not a bad idea,” Cameron replied, but then hesitated. “However, I’m not very interested in gambling lately. Instead, I’ll find someone to take my place.”
Meanwhile, Quinn was enjoying the sun, sand, and delicious food while lying on a lounge chair, feeling utterly relaxed. When Harry approached her, she was blissfully humming with her eyes closed.
“What did you say? Mr. Sutton wants me to come play cards?” Quinn’s gaze shot toward the canopy as soon as she heard Harry’s message, only to meet Cameron’s eyes directly looking in her direction.
Feeling shy, she quickly averted her gaze, waving her hands at Harry. “No, no! I don’t want to play. I don’t know how!”
