Never Truly Over Chapter 23

Chapter 23

“With Mr. Sutton here, what are you afraid of? Let’s go. Don’t keep him waiting too long, or he’ll get angry,” Harry coaxed and threatened simultaneously.

The mention of Cameron getting angry made Quinn shoot up from her lounge chair like a fish leaping from water. She quickly followed Harry into the canopy.

“Who is this young lady?” Russo asked, noticing the plain-looking Quinn trailing behind Harry.

Cameron placed a hand on Quinn’s shoulder and gently guided her to a chair at the poker table, a dangerous smile appearing on his face. “Her last name is Lawson. You can call her Ms. Lawson.”

“You’re not planning to have Ms. Lawson play for you, are you?” Russo mocked, eyeing Quinn’s timid demeanor.

“Don’t underestimate her, Mr. Davies. Let’s see if you can win first,” Cameron replied sarcastically, pressing firmly on Quinn’s slender shoulder.

Quinn felt the weight of his hand, her back arching slightly. Internally, she was practically dying of embarrassment.

Turning to Cameron, she said, looking distressed, “Mr. Sutton, I really can’t… you should let Harry handle this instead…”

“Don’t worry. It’s just a simple game of Texas Hold’em,” Cameron reassured her.

“Texas Hold’em? How do you play?” Quinn asked, completely bewildered. She had hardly heard of the game, let alone played it. How was she even supposed to start?

Cameron was probably caught off guard by her lack of poker knowledge. “What about a simpler game like ‘Showdown’?”

“What’s that?” Quinn remained confused. She swore she didn’t know how to play cards. She thought, “Please don’t make this difficult for me.”

“What do you know how to play?” He suppressed his irritation and asked.

“Umm…” Could she admit that she knew nothing? But looking at him, she was too scared to say it.

Observing the situation, Russo mocked from the sidelines, “It looks like the assistance you found isn’t much use.”

“What now? Why not just forfeit this opportunity? After all, the Imperial Group is quite resourceful. There’s no need to compete with us for a mere Moon Island.”

“Can… can I play Hearts? I know a little about that…” Quinn said timidly, looking up at Cameron for approval.

“Sure, Hearts it is then,” Cameron decided, ignoring Russo’s objections. He turned to the government official sitting nearby. “How about you join them for a round?”

The official hesitated before looking at Russo, who gave a slight nod. He then moved to take a seat at the table.

With everyone gathered, the dealer began to shuffle and deal the cards.

As Quinn sat at the table, anxiety surged within her, and her hands trembled as she gripped the cards, too afraid to breathe deeply.

Noticing her tension, Cameron leaned closer, his lips brushing against her ear as he whispered, “Play well. The fate of a multi-billion-dollar deal rests on your shoulders.”

Quinn’s nerves intensified.

As the dealer distributed the cards, Quinn opened hers and felt a wave of despair. Not a single good card—her luck was terrible.

She frowned, turning to Cameron for guidance, hoping he could assist.

But at that moment, Cameron sat back, engrossed in his phone, casually crossing his legs. He seemed completely unfazed by the multi-billion-dollar deal hanging in the balance.
