Never Truly Over Chapter 24

Chapter 24

“Ladies first, Ms. Lawson. Are you going to pass?” Russo asked. Noticing her distressed expression, he knew her cards were terrible.

Quinn shook her head. With such a poor hand—unable to form a sequence—she would lose miserably against two players if she led.

“No…” Just as she began to refuse, the man behind her, engrossed in his phone, coughed loudly, startling her.

Confused, she turned to look at Cameron, but he remained focused on his screen, seemingly uninterested.

“Ms. Lawson! Are you going to pass or not?” Russo’s impatience was palpable. Winning this round meant eliminating Cameron from the game.

Pinnacle Group had been under Imperial Group’s thumb for years, mocked by the industry as perpetual second-place contenders. Russo was determined to make a statement. He had gathered significant manpower and resources to gain an advantage over Cameron, who had recently expressed interest in developing land in Xenvale. Cameron’s unexpected appearance made Russo even more eager to win.

Feeling pressured, Quinn panicked. The other two players were in cahoots; regardless of her decision, she would lose with her terrible hand.

So she thought, why not take the lead and enjoy the thrill? If she was going to lose, she might as well do it with flair—as long as Cameron didn’t expect her to pay him back.

“I will take the lead,” she said, her voice clear and ringing.

She flipped over the three bottom cards with a shaky hand, secretly hoping for a miracle. However, she felt like crying after seeing the queen, nine, and two. Aside from the queen, the cards seemed strong. But she only had mismatched threes, fours, fives, and sevens—not a single “big” card. Those three cards were useless. She would have preferred a six to make a sequence.

Looking at her useless cards, Quinn weakly asked, “Can I forfeit?”

Russo burst into laughter, pointing at Quinn. “Forfeit? Of course! As long as Mr. Sutton agrees.”

Chapter 24 (Continued)

Sitting quietly, Cameron stood, walked to Quinn, took her hand of cards, and tossed them onto the table. “Congratulations, Mr. Davies. You win.”

Then he pulled Quinn from her chair and left.

“Thanks, Mr. Sutton. I’ll send you an invitation for the groundbreaking celebration once the project starts,” Russo called out, his tone brimming with smugness.

Cameron smirked, a dangerous, cold smile curling his lips.

Harry, following behind, felt a shiver run down his spine. He knew someone was about to face the consequences of that expression.

As they hopped into the buggy, Quinn sat behind Cameron, mentally rehearsing her apology for inadvertently losing the multi-billion-dollar deal. After gathering her thoughts, she cautiously addressed Cameron’s back: “Mr. Sutton… I’m so sorry… I made you lose that multi-billion-dollar business…”

“It’s fine.” His voice remained calm and composed; he didn’t turn to look at her.

Hearing those three words, Quinn felt relieved. Thank goodness—he didn’t blame her.
