Never Truly Over Chapter 25
Chapter 25
“You just have to pay back the money, that’s all.”
“What?” Quinn exclaimed, rising from her seat in shock. The low roof of the buggy caused her head to bang painfully against the top as she moved suddenly. The impact made her dizzy and brought tears to her eyes.
“Are you okay, Ms. Lawson?” Harry, sitting beside her, winced at the loud thud and felt a pang of sympathy.
Tears brimming, Quinn pouted. “I already said I don’t know how to play cards!” she said, her voice filled with despair. “You all insisted I play, and now that I lost, you want me to pay back money I don’t have! Where am I supposed to get that kind of cash? Even if you sold me, I couldn’t repay it!”
Finally, Cameron turned his head. His expression was cold and emotionless as he said, “It’s fine; I’m not in a hurry. You can pay me back slowly.”
Quinn’s sobs intensified. “Pay him back slowly?” she thought. How long would that take for billions? She felt hopeless, genuinely wanting to disappear.
She cried the whole way back, her eyes swollen. Harry felt compassion several times and wanted to comfort her, but Cameron glared at him, forcing him to retreat each time he tried to offer support. He couldn’t help her. After all, she was the one who had caught Cameron’s eye. Too bad.
When they returned to the hotel, Harry quickly made up an excuse and left for a while. Quinn followed Cameron into the elevator and saw her red, puffy eyes in the mirror. She felt utterly miserable and started crying again.
“Are you done crying yet?” The man who had endured her tears throughout the journey could no longer contain his frustration. His cold voice pierced the air like a knife.
Startled by his sudden outburst, Quinn immediately stopped crying, staring at him in a daze.
Wyatt and Rebecca stepped into the elevator as the doors opened. Seeing Cameron, Wyatt froze for a moment before quickly greeting him. “Mr. Sutton, did you just return?”
“Mm,” Cameron replied indifferently.
Noticing Cameron’s cool demeanor, Wyatt didn’t dare to engage in further conversation and fell silent.
However, Rebecca keenly spotted Quinn standing behind Cameron and asked with feigned concern, “What’s wrong with Ms. Lawson? She looks like she’s been crying.”
Her comment caught Wyatt’s attention, and he turned to see Quinn’s reddened eyes and nose.
“It’s nothing. Something just got in my eye,” Quinn quickly said, shaking her head and nearly burying her face in her chest. Her voice was choked.
“Is that so? Let me take a look and see what it is,” Rebecca said, stepping forward.
Before she could approach Quinn, Cameron’s long, powerful arm blocked her path. “Ms. Lynch seems quite interested in other people’s business.”
Rebecca looked up to see Cameron’s icy face and deep black eyes fixed on her. She instinctively recoiled, taking two steps back, not daring to move closer. Cameron’s overwhelming presence intimidated her; one glance was enough. It was better to keep her distance.
Wyatt noticed Cameron’s displeasure and quickly signaled to Rebecca, stepping forward to press the elevator door button. He turned to Cameron with an apologetic expression. “Mr. Sutton, we’ve arrived. Please take your time.”
Cameron pressed the close door button without looking up, shutting both Wyatt and Rebecca outside.
