Never Truly Over Chapter 26
Chapter 26
The elevator ascended to the top floor. Quinn retrieved her room card from her bag, swiped it open, and prepared to squat to get Cameron some slippers. Just as she bent down, Cameron's large hand grabbed her arms, effortlessly lifting her. "Go wash your face," he said.
Preoccupied with her massive debt, Quinn didn't argue and obediently went to the bathroom. After washing her face, she opened the door to find Cameron leaning against the wall, holding an ice pack. Before she could react, he pulled her in front of him and pressed the ice pack against her eyes.
It was so cold. She instinctively leaned back, nearly hitting her head on the doorframe. Cameron quickly caught the back of her head, preventing injury.
"Stay still," he ordered.
Quinn gritted her teeth, trying to pull away. Her red, swollen eyes widened as she looked up at him. "Mr. Sutton, are you really going to make me pay you back?"
"Do you think I'm joking?" Cameron crossed his arms, looking amused.
"But you had me play the game! I lost because of that! I didn't intend to lose your money!" Quinn argued.
After considering her words, Cameron lowered his head thoughtfully. "You make a good point. I do bear some responsibility."
"Really? Do you agree with me?" His response surprised Quinn, and her eyes lit up with hope.
"Of course. I'm a reasonable person," Cameron said, a strange smile playing on his lips. "I'll cover most of the billions you lost; you'll be responsible for the remaining ten billion."
"What? Ten billion?" For her, that was astronomical.
"Don't worry. You can take your time to pay it back." His unsettling smile sent a chill down her spine.
"I don't have any money," Quinn said defiantly, biting her lip. Cameron wasn't a good person, so she decided to play hardball.
"No money, huh?" Cameron feigned concern, furrowing his brow and propping his chin on his hands. "That's quite troublesome."
Seeing his apparent loss for words, Quinn raised an eyebrow. "Exactly. I don't have a house, a car, or savings. My salary is a pittance. How could I possibly pay you back ten billion?"
"Well, it's not entirely impossible."
"Uh… how?"
"You could always sell yourself," Cameron suggested, his smirk widening.
Quinn thought he was joking. "Come on, don't kid around. I'm not worth ten billion."
"Not a problem. I'll take a loss and buy you."
"Stop it…" Unease grew with each word. She crossed her arms defensively, looking at him warily. "What do you mean by that? Why would you want to buy me?"
"What do you think? What could I do by buying you?" Cameron countered, his tone implying something more.
Quinn's heart sank as she recalled the many nights two years ago. Hadn't he paid to spend a night with her then?
