Never Truly Over Chapter 27
Chapter 27
"No, that's not possible! I swore it was just for that one time, and I won't ever—" Quinn shook her head in horror, desperate to refuse the idea of selling herself.
But Cameron's lazy voice drifted down from above before she could finish. "It's true that buying a butler for ten billion isn't a good deal."
"Uh?" What did he mean by that?
"A butler?" Did she misunderstand him? Quinn looked up at him, bewildered.
"What? Are you thinking of something else?" Cameron countered, intentionally prodding her.
Realizing she had let her imagination run wild, Quinn's cheeks flushed bright red with embarrassment.
"Just ice your eyes and have someone bring up lunch," he said, tossing the command over his shoulder as he walked toward the living room.
With the ice pack still in her hands, Quinn pressed it against her flushed face. How embarrassing. She almost misinterpreted his meaning. Did Cameron realize her misinterpretation?
That evening, Harry returned to the hotel and immediately presented his phone to Cameron, opening a financial news website. "Mr. Sutton, you were right! The photos went online this afternoon and immediately hit trending status. Pinnacle Group's stock has plummeted today. I've received news from insiders that the major shareholders plan to hold a board meeting to remove Russo from the chairmanship. All the news media are covering this, and the government's disciplinary department has also taken action…"
Cameron displayed a knowing smile. "High-ranking government officials and real estate developers gambling together? With such explosive news, who wouldn't want to cover it?"
"Exactly! We really owe it to Ms. Lawson this time. After all, it wouldn't have been appropriate for either of us to step in. Her presence saved us," Harry said, giving Quinn credit in front of Cameron.
Cameron chuckled lightly, a smirk playing on his lips. Harry quickly shut up, realizing he shouldn't mention Quinn further.
That night, Quinn was haunted by nightmares, dreaming that Cameron was chasing her with a machete, demanding repayment.
She awoke in a cold sweat as the sun had already risen. After getting up and changing into her work clothes, she entered the living room to find Cameron and Harry dressed formally, packing luggage.
"Are you going out?" Quinn asked, bewildered, standing in the doorway.
"Mr. Sutton has urgent matters to attend to in Yatran. Ms. Lawson, you've worked hard these past few days. It's a good opportunity for you to rest," Harry explained, pushing open the door as Cameron stepped outside.
"Will you be coming back?" Quinn asked, chasing after them.
"What? Are you going to miss us? Don't worry. I will definitely return. There are still things I need to handle here. As for you, I'm not too sure—"
"Perhaps when you're ready to pay him back that ten billion, he might be willing to make another trip," Harry winked at her, adding the remark as he followed Cameron and disappeared from sight.
Quinn fell silent. Watching them leave, she closed the door, returned to her room, and collapsed heavily onto her bed. How was she supposed to pay back ten billion? Was she really going to sell herself to him as a lifelong butler? No way. She didn't want that.
