Never Truly Over Chapter 28

Chapter 28

Quinn had a lot of free time after Cameron left. After all, she had no one to attend to.

After catching up on her sleep, she went to the employee cafeteria around 10:00 a.m. for lunch. The cafeteria usually opened for lunch at 10:00 a.m. to stagger dining and rest times, with dinner served from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., followed by a late-night snack.

As Quinn entered, she noticed many people inside. As usual, she went to the food counter but soon felt many eyes on her, accompanied by whispers. What was going on? Had she worn her clothes inside out? Curious, she glanced down at her uniform; it looked tidy. Nothing seemed amiss.

After getting her meal, she looked for a seat and spotted Melissa waving. “Ms. Lawson, over here!”

Quinn quickly walked over. “Melissa, are you on the day shift today?” she asked.

Melissa pulled her aside, glancing at the people around them. “Yes, but let’s not stay here. Let’s eat outside where the air is better.”

Quinn sensed something was wrong, so she nodded and followed her to the outdoor terrace.

Once they were settled beside a flower bed, Quinn asked, “What’s going on? It feels like everyone is staring at me. What happened?”

“You don’t know? It’s all over the hotel that you tried to seduce Mr. Sutton from the presidential suite, but he rejected you. They’re saying it very disparagingly,” Melissa explained.

“What?” Quinn jumped up in anger, dropping her food tray. Clenching her fists, she asked through gritted teeth, “Who started this rumor?”

“I’m not sure, but I first heard it from Harlan in the butler department. Ms. Lawson, do you think Rebecca is jealous because you served Mr. Sutton? Maybe she spread the rumors?” Melissa said, her expression indignant.

“Rebecca?” Quinn suddenly recalled their encounter in the elevator yesterday.

Chapter 29 (Presumably, the original text had a typo; Chap 20 is likely a mistake)

It must have been her. Perhaps Rebecca thought that, because Quinn was crying, there was a romantic connection between her and Cameron. Rebecca was clever enough to fabricate a story that Quinn had tried to seduce Cameron and been rejected. This way, even if the gossip reached Cameron’s ears, he wouldn’t say anything. After all, only Quinn’s reputation would be damaged; Cameron would be cast as a victim of harassment—no one would speak ill of him.

“Melissa, listen. My relationship with Mr. Sutton is purely professional. He’s done nothing special for me; I’m just doing my job. Please don’t spread any rumors, okay?” Quinn said, her expression serious.

Seeing her earnest demeanor, Melissa nodded vigorously. “Don’t worry, Ms. Lawson. I promised I wouldn’t say anything.”

“Good. Eat your meal. I need to go,” Quinn said, turning back toward the building.

“Rebecca really thought she could bully me, didn’t she?” Quinn thought. Rebecca had the audacity to spread such malicious rumors and paint Quinn in such an ugly light. Today, Quinn was going to show Rebecca that she wasn’t someone to be pushed around.
