Never Truly Over Chapter 29

Chapter 29

Quinn stepped out of the elevator onto the fifth floor, where the hotel's administrative offices were located. She then headed straight for the butler department.

As soon as she entered, she spotted Rebecca chatting with Whitney Brooks, the assistant manager of guest services from the finance department. They were gossiping and laughing, as if they had just shared a juicy secret.

“I always thought Mr. Sutton had a thing for her, you know? That’s why he kept her around… But yesterday, I saw her crying in the elevator. It’s clear she’s not having an easy time working with him. Serves her right for thinking she could go from rags to riches just by cozying up to a wealthy guest in the presidential suite.”

Whitney nodded in agreement, her face twisted with disdain. “I never would have guessed. She always acts so high and mighty, but it turns out she’s just another gold digger.”

Quinn’s blood boiled as she listened, her face flushing with anger. Unable to contain herself, she stormed over and shouted, “Rebecca, you better explain yourself! Where exactly did you see me trying to seduce Mr. Sutton?”

Quinn’s sudden appearance startled both women. However, having dealt with all kinds of people as a butler, Rebecca quickly regained her composure.

Rebecca feigned innocence, saying, “Ms. Lawson, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Quinn didn’t believe her and snapped, “Don’t play dumb with me. I heard everything you said. I can’t believe how low you’ve stooped. Is that really what you think of everyone who works with wealthy clients? That we’re all just trying to land a sugar daddy?”

Rebecca was unfazed by Quinn’s outburst. She had resented Quinn ever since she was passed over for the position of head butler for the presidential suite. The subsequent humiliation of having to relinquish the position, only to be rejected by Cameron, had left her bitter and vengeful.

“Oh, please, Quinn. You can drop the innocent act. We all know what type of woman you are,” Rebecca mocked, rolling her eyes.

Whitney sensed the tension escalating. She tried to calm them down before things got out of hand. “Ms. Lynch, let’s not do this. If someone sees you two arguing, it could reflect poorly on both of you. You’re the one who stands to lose.”

Rebecca wasn’t about to let it go. “Ms. Brooks, you’re right. I shouldn’t waste my breath arguing with her. After all, she’s got connections now. One day she’s out on a yacht with some tycoon; the next she’s playing cards with another. I wouldn’t want to risk my job if she decides to badmouth me to some important people.”

Quinn froze, stunned by Rebecca’s words. She wondered how Rebecca knew about yesterday and asked, “What are you talking about? What yacht? What card game?”

Only Cameron, Harry, and she had been on that boat. Moreover, none of the other guests had any connection to the hotel.

Rebecca flashed a mocking smile. “Oh, come on. Are you really going to deny it? Your photos are all over the news. You’re quite the jinx, aren’t you? I bet that rich friend of yours is in hot water now, thanks to you.”

Before Quinn could respond, Wyatt emerged from the general manager’s office, his voice booming. “What’s all this commotion about?”

Rebecca quickly pointed the finger at Quinn. “Mr. Thompson, I swear I didn’t start this. She came in here looking for a fight!”

However, Quinn was no longer listening. Her mind was reeling from the news about the photos. She no longer cared about arguing with Rebecca, turning and running from the office.

“Ms. Lawson, where are you going?” Wyatt called after her, but she ignored him.

She raced to the elevator and headed straight for the presidential suite. Once inside, she locked the door and pulled out her phone with trembling hands. Her heart pounding, she opened the news app, dreading what she might find.
