Never Truly Over Chapter 30
Chapter 30
Quinn’s heart sank as she saw the headline plastered across the top of the news. There, in full color, was a photo of her playing cards with two strangers—the very scene from yesterday when she had filled in for Cameron. Her mind raced, trying to make sense of how this could have happened.
As she studied the image closely, she suddenly realized the angle was from the exact spot Cameron had been sitting yesterday. She remembered that Cameron had been on his phone while they were playing cards.
Based on this, it was clear that Cameron had been taking pictures. This realization only puzzled Quinn as she wondered if it was really him who had done it and what his reason was.
Meanwhile, across town in the affluent Oceana Bay neighborhood of Yatran, a sleek black Porsche sped through the gates of the Sutton estate. The car stopped in front of an imposing mansion, where the family’s longtime butler, Theodore Clark, stood waiting.
Theodore hurried over and opened the rear car door, allowing a tall, imposing figure to step out. He greeted him with the utmost respect: “Mr. Sutton, you’ve finally returned. I hope your journey wasn’t too tiring.”
Cameron handed his coat to Theodore as they walked into the house. “How’s Grandpa doing?”
Theodore updated him as they made their way inside: “He’s much better now, sir. The doctors say he’s out of danger, but they’ve warned us to keep a close eye on him. At his age, his heart can’t take too many more shocks like this.”
“Good. I’ll go up and check on him,” Cameron said, heading straight to the second floor.
In an elegantly decorated room on the east side of the mansion, Fabian lay quietly in bed. An IV drip was connected to his hand, and a nurse was keeping watch nearby.
As Cameron entered, the nurse approached him. “Mr. Sutton, you’re back.”
Cameron glanced at Fabian and asked, “How long has Grandpa been asleep?”
The nurse checked her wristwatch and answered, “About ten minutes. Would you like me to wake him?”
Cameron shook his head, approaching the bed. “No, let him rest. Just let me know when he wakes up.” Then, he gently tucked the blanket to cover Fabian’s chest before leaving the room.
As soon as Cameron stepped into the hallway, Harry approached with his phone in hand. “Mr. Sutton, we’ve figured out what happened. It turns out Mr. Kenneth was behind Mr. Sutton Senior’s heart attack.”
Cameron’s eyes darkened. “What do you mean?”
Harry glanced around to make sure they were alone, then leaned close to whisper in Cameron’s ear. As he spoke, Cameron’s face immediately hardened with fury.
“He’s getting bolder by the day. I can’t believe he’d try something like this,” Cameron growled.
Harry nodded gravely. “He must have been planning this for a while, waiting for you to leave town before making his move. Thank goodness Mrs. Sutton caught on to what was happening, or he might have gotten away with it. I can’t imagine what might have happened had Mr. Kenneth managed to steal Mr. Sutton Senior’s company seal.”
