Listen to this chapter:

Quinn stopped stammering the moment she heard that. She looked at Cameron in disbelief and asked, “Are you for real?”

“Barely. I mean, I wouldn’t mind if you want to pay me back in other ways,” he said, standing up and walking toward Quinn. He touched her hair gently and said, “I mean, like… at night.”

Quinn blushed and quickly looked at the ground, clenching and releasing her hands, unsure where to put them.

“I posit you’re ready,” Cameron said, pleased with her reaction. He withdrew his hand from her hair and turned toward the door.

Quinn looked at him and asked, “Where are we going?”

“We’re going for breakfast,” Cameron replied.

Quinn then remembered she still hadn’t had breakfast.

Cameron took her to a café that served bountiful pastries. He ordered many dishes, and Quinn devoured them at lightning speed, finally stopping after a few scones.

“Are you full now?” Cameron asked.

“Yep,” Quinn replied. She felt she had received too much kindness from Cameron lately; it left her feeling a bit burdened. She looked up, took a deep breath, and asked, “Can you tell me…”

Cameron recalled that he had said Quinn wouldn’t have to repay him.

Quinn pursed her lips and said carefully, “I’ll work hard and pay you back for the money you paid to save my dad. Although you said I don’t have to, I know it’s my responsibility.”

“After my brother finishes his studies, we’ll work together to repay you, though you might have to wait a while.”

“I see your hobby is paying others,” Cameron said coldly. “Then you should repay me luck for the hundred million you owe me.”

Quinn suddenly felt it was a bad idea to bring up repayment.

“Why are you so quiet all of a sudden?” Cameron asked.

“You know I’ll never be able to repay you for that…”

Quinn didn’t understand why he would try to make her feel indebted. Besides, she didn’t think she was responsible for repaying him for that.

“I see that you only take on what you can manage. You’re smart,” he said.

“That I mean…” Quinn began.

“Well, what is it that you meant?” Cameron asked.

Quinn didn’t know how to reply. Suddenly, her phone rang; it was Wyatt.

“Hello, Mr. Thompson,” Quinn greeted, answering the phone.

“Ms. Lawson, where are you?” Wyatt asked.

“I don’t care where you are right now, but come meet me at 2:00 p.m. today,” Wyatt said.

“What’s going on?” Quinn asked.

“You have to ask yourself that.”

Quinn was stunned by his words.

“As soon as possible,” Wyatt added, then disconnected the call.
