Chapter 72
Quinn had the chauffeur drive her to the market. She bought many things, and the chauffeur followed her around to carry them. When she was paying, she suddenly heard someone calling her name from behind. Feeling surprised, she turned around and saw a familiar face.
Melody Harrelson squeezed through the crowd from the end of the queue and approached her. She grabbed Quinn’s hand and asked excitedly, “Quinn! It’s you? Oh my! I didn’t expect to meet you here.”
Quinn was also excited when she saw her roommate from back in college. “Melody, what a coincidence!”
“I remembered you went to work in Netvale right after graduating. Are you back to visit your family?” Melody asked, as she looked at the young chauffeur whose hands were full of bags and standing before Quinn.
“No. I quit my job there,” Quinn replied.
“I haven’t seen you for years. You just get prettier and prettier,” Melody said, averting her gaze to the chauffeur. “Is this your boyfriend?”
Quinn shook her head. “No. Don’t be silly.”
“If he isn’t your boyfriend, he must be pursuing you then. Quinn, you’re still so popular after graduating from college. I’m envious of you,” Melody joked.
“Hey, stop with your nonsense. He’s a chauffeur,” Quinn said, almost speechless. She could only tell Melody the chauffeur’s identity so that she would stop assuming things.
Little did she expect Melody to grow more excited upon hearing that. “Wow! Quinn, you’re impressive. You even have a chauffeur now.”
“No… He’s my friend’s chauffeur,” Quinn quickly explained. When she saw that the cashier was done scanning all the items, she took out her card.
After paying, she turned around and said to Melody, “I’ll wait for you outside. Hurry up and come out after making your payment.”
“Okay,” Melody replied before returning to her original spot.
Quinn handed the things she bought to the chauffeur. “Sir, please send these to the villa. I’ve met my old friend, so I’m not returning for now.”
“Hmm… Mr. Campbell told me to send you home safely,” the chauffeur said, seeming a bit troubled.
“It’s okay, I’ll inform Mr. Campbell. Don’t worry. I’ll chat with her somewhere for a while, then go home,” Quinn assured him.
“Do you need me to send you girls there?” the chauffeur asked.
“Thank you, but it’s fine. We’ll probably go to a cafe nearby,” Quinn said, turning down his offer and seeing him off.
She waited until Melody came back after paying. Then, the two held hands and went to the cafe on the upper floor.
“How are you? How have you been these years?” Quinn asked after ordering coffee.
“Pretty good. Everything is good at work, but there’s no progress in my love life,” Melody replied, chuckling. After that, she asked, “What about you? Has your brother recovered completely?”
“Yes. He’s studying abroad now,” Quinn replied.
“Wow, that’s great! You were so worried because of his sickness back then. By the way, are you back to attend your younger sister’s engagement party?” Melody suddenly thought of something and asked.
“What do you mean?” Quinn didn’t remember having a younger sister.
“Huh? You don’t know about it? Nevermind. Forget it. I said nothing,” Melody quickly waved her hand after realizing she had spilled the beans.
Since Melody had spilled part of the story, how could Quinn pretend she had heard nothing?
“Melody, what did you mean just now? Can you make things clear?” she pressed, holding Melody’s hand.
Seeing that, Melody sighed and revealed the truth: “Hmm… 20% Jakeman, your mom’s stepdaughter, is marrying Caleb Zeller.”
When Quinn heard Caleb’s name, she realized it had been a long time and that things had changed drastically. The smile on her face froze as the memory of her past college life flooded her mind.
