Chapter 78

“Oh, what a commotion! What are you arguing about?” The door to the room was pushed open from outside, and a good-looking couple walked in.

The man’s gaze swept to the couch where Quinn was sitting. She looked extremely awkward, with red wine splashed all over her. When Quinn heard his voice, she looked up abruptly, and their eyes met instantly. Her pupils constricted, and the blood drained from her face immediately, leaving her as pale as a sheet.

What a coincidence. Who would’ve thought that she would meet him here?

“Caleb, Zoe, you’re here.” Dan stood up from the couch to greet his friends.

Zoe soon realized that Quinn was there. Although she had been smiling, a hint of revulsion flashed across her face.

“Dylan, how could you? I wondered why you only invited Caleb to this gathering while leaving me out. I see that it’s because there’s a certain someone here.”

“Are you planning on being the mediator and making my fiancé rekindle the fire with his ex-girlfriend?” Zoe asked accusingly, looking Quinn up and down with disdain. She immediately turned her wrath on Dylan.

It was a harsh accusation for Dylan. He hastily waved his hands and explained, “Ms. Jakeman, you’ve misunderstood. I only just found out that Quinn was back.”

“Really?” Zoe clearly did not believe him. She reached out to take Caleb’s arm as if declaring her territory. She said proudly, “Honey, it doesn’t seem much fun here. Look at the land of people who are here! We should go home.”

Caleb’s gaze remained on Quinn’s ethereally beautiful face. It had been two years since they last met, but she was still as gorgeous as ever. In fact, it would be more accurate to say that she was even more stunning than she had been in the past.

She had a petite face and eyes that seemed to be full of secrets. They were as misty and ethereal as the rains of South River. She had a neat nose and full, pouty lips that seemed to invite others to admire them. Her glossy, black hair cascaded over her shoulders like a sheet of satin, and it made her skin glow like moonlight.

She looked rather awkward and helpless, although Caleb wasn’t sure if it was because of his sudden appearance or because of the dark red wine stain on her clothes.

Zoe saw that Caleb was staring rather vacantly at Quinn, and she felt her mood drop instantly. Dylan saw that she was about to lose her temper, so he hurried up and grabbed her arm. “Oh, come on, Zoe! Since you’re here, stay for a while before you go. Why are you in such a rush to—?”

He then grabbed Caleb’s arm. “Hey Caleb, you haven’t said a word since you came in. What do you mean by that? Are you too excited to see your old friend or what? Hurry up and sit down. Let’s have a couple of drinks.”

Caleb finally recovered and forced himself to look away from Quinn. He let Dylan push him down onto a couch.

“Sorry, please excuse me,” Quinn murmured hastily to Dylan. She did not want to stay there any longer, so she got up immediately and walked out of the room.

As soon as she left the room, she headed straight for the restroom to wash the stain on her dress. However, alcoholic drinks like wine could not be cleaned thoroughly without a special detergent, and she did not dare to soak her entire dress. That would only embarrass her; she wiped it down roughly with a few napkins and decided to go home to clean up.

After she left the restroom, she headed for the bar entrance. However, she had just entered the corridor when a tall, well-built figure stopped her.
