Never Truly Over Chapter 8

Chapter 8

After Quinn left the club, she didn't return to the hotel. Instead, she went back to her rented apartment.

The first thing she did when she got home was draw a hot bath and soak in it. She tried to use the water's temperature to relieve the soreness in her body.

When she closed her eyes, her mind was filled with images of Cameron. From their first encounter to their second, and then their third… up until their last encounter that night. The memories played like a movie—with stark clarity and vividness.

Although she couldn't figure out why he had acted that way, it was clear he had lost his composure.

Was it because he was drunk?

But that didn't seem right either. Having worked at the hotel for a year, Quinn knew that genuinely intoxicated guests weren't capable of such behavior.

She didn't want to admit it, but Cameron was a completely different person that night than the one she was used to. Two years ago, he had been her benefactor, considering her feelings and trying his best to be gentle.

But that night, he was like a starving lion that wished to devour her. It was terrifying.

Deep down, she no longer wanted to be involved with him, nor did she want to reminisce about their shameful past from two years ago. Staying away from him was her only logical choice.

The next morning at the Luxem Hotel, Quinn followed Wyatt into his office as soon as he arrived.

"Mr. Thompson, I have something to tell you." After a sleepless night, Quinn looked exhausted. She was haggard, with deep, dark circles under her eyes.

Wyatt was shocked to see her, but he immediately asked her to sit on the couch and poured her a cup of coffee. "What's wrong? Did something happen with Mr. Sutton?"

Quinn took the coffee cup and placed it on the table. She said, "I want to return to the housekeeping department. Please arrange for someone from the butler department to take over my work."

Wyatt's expression tightened. "What's the situation? Did you do something to offend Mr. Sutton? How unfortunate! What did I tell you before? I told you to take good care of him. Why did you—"

"No! I didn't do anything to offend him," Quinn hurriedly interrupted, seeing Wyatt's anxious expression.

After composing himself, Wyatt's expression softened, and he smiled. "I told you you were capable. What do you mean you can't handle Mr. Sutton?"

He looked curiously at Quinn and asked, "But if you haven't offended him, then why would you want someone else to take over?"

"I…" Quinn hesitated, lowering her head, not knowing how to answer.

Seeing her hesitation, Wyatt became serious. "Quinn, now's the time when the hotel needs you. It's rare that Mr. Sutton is quite satisfied with you serving him. You can't let me down during this critical moment, okay?

"I know it isn't easy to serve him, so how about this? Once this is over, I'll give you a larger bonus this month!"

"It's not like that, Mr. Thompson. I'm not asking for a bigger bonus." Quinn quickly waved her hand in dismissal, seeing that Wyatt misunderstood her.

Wyatt was confused. She hadn't made a mistake at work, and she didn't want a larger bonus. So why was she doing this?

"I'm not from the butler department, after all. I'm not familiar with their services, and I don't have the confidence to be competent at the job. Although I haven't done anything wrong now, it's hard to guarantee I won't accidentally offend Mr. Sutton one of these days. It may damage the hotel's reputation…" Quinn said, her lack of confidence evident in her expression.
