Chapter 91
“What did you say, Mr. Surton?” Zoe thought she must have misheard. Her eyes widened instantly. She looked like she was in disbelief.
“Girlfriend?” How could Quinn be his girlfriend?
Zayne’s gaze shifted slightly. Though his expression remained calm, there was an unusual sharpness in his eyes.
“Jakeman Estate sure is hospitable, huh? It seems I have come to the wrong place.” As he said that, he pulled Quinn’s hand, ready to leave.
At that moment, a middle-aged man entered the room. There was a forced smile on his face as he tried to mediate. “Oh, this is all a misunderstanding, Mr. Sutton. Please don’t be angry. My daughter is young and impulsive, and she spoke out of turn. I sincerely hope you can overlook her mistakes.”
Zayne raised his brow and sneered. “A misunderstanding? I don’t think so.”
“It’s a misunderstanding, Zoe. What are you standing there for? Why haven’t you apologized to Mr. Sutton yet?” asked David as he pulled Zoe aside, quietly scolding her.
“There’s no need for that. If an apology is to be made, it should be to my friend,” Zane said coolly.
Zoe looked reluctant upon hearing that.
However, David dared not offend Zayne. He had no choice but to pressure Zoe. “Zoe, apologize to Ms. Lawson.”
Orinn, however, looked up at Zoe and said, “There’s no need to do so. I won’t forgive you.”
“You.” Zoe didn’t expect her to say that. Her face was red one moment and pale the next due to the embarrassment. She could only look at Caleb, hoping he would come to her aid.
At this moment, Caleb looked confined. His gaze was fixed on Quinn’s frightened and pale face. Her eyes were teary, and she looked pitiful. The sight of Zayne’s hand on her shoulder was difficult to look at.
“Let’s go. I don’t want to stay here any longer,” Quinn said. She felt like she was suffocating. Everyone here was like a predator, ready to devour her whole. She hated everything about this place and wanted to leave immediately.
Zayne nodded gently. “Alright.” He steadied her trembling body as they left.
Durid wanted to stop them but ultimately dared not approach. He knew full well that he had thoroughly offended the second son of the Sutton family today.
Once they left Jakeman Estate, Quinn quickly freed herself from Zayne’s side and rushed to the side of the road. She then threw up horribly.
Zayne went to his car parked by the roadside, took a bottle of water, and handed it to her.
Quinn took the water, rinsed her mouth with it, and took several gulps. She finally managed to suppress the nausea.
“Thank you,” she said, looking up at Zayne. If it wasn’t for him, she couldn’t imagine what might have happened to her today.
Zayne smiled. He pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and gently wiped the water droplets from the corners of her mouth.
Quinn didn’t realize he would do that, so she froze. An awkward expression graced her face.
She remembered seeing him collapse on the lawn earlier and quickly asked out of concern, “Oh, how are you feeling? Are you okay now?”
“I’m fine now after taking the medicine. Actually, I should be the one thanking you. If you hadn’t helped me, I might be in the hospital right now,” he said with a smile.
“It was nothing,” she said, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
“In a hero who saved the damsel in distress,” said Zayne.
