Chapter 609

Thank goodness this is only his office. I can only imagine how Jacinta might behave if they were at Bowenโ€™s Home.

โ€œIโ€™m here to see you,โ€ Aubree said, maintaining a friendly smile.

Jacinta looked surprised, responding, โ€œMe? Youโ€™re here for me?โ€

โ€œYou seemed to know a lot about Bowen, more than what a typical secretary might know. You even know that Mr. Enrique is sick,โ€ she pointed out.

Jacinta smiled shyly and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear as she explained, โ€œMr. Turner sometimes chats with me about these things after weโ€™ve finished our work, of course.โ€

Aubree couldnโ€™t help but think, โ€œIs she suggesting that she and Bowen talk outside of the office too?โ€

Admittedly, Jacintaโ€™s words made her feel a bit uneasy.

However, Aubree trusted Bowen, and she knew that anyone could uncover the little things Jacinta had mentioned about him with a bit of digging.

โ€œYou canโ€™t be serious about not knowing why Iโ€™m looking for you, right?โ€ Aubree asked, facing Jacinta directly.

She noticed a faint smile on Jacintaโ€™s lips as she responded respectfully, โ€œMiss Miller, are you referring to that rumor going around online? Those are just some baseless gossipโ€“surely you donโ€™t believe any of it, do you?โ€

โ€œI wouldnโ€™t go that far. I just wanted to get to know you better. Now that I have, it turns out youโ€™re nothing special,โ€ Aubree replied.

Aubree glanced at the desk, noticing it was covered in papers. It was clear that Jacinta had been busy organizing them.

After Aubree finished talking, she saw Jacintaโ€™s expression change; it turned serious.

โ€œFrom the moment I walked in, Iโ€™ve had this uneasy feelingโ€“like I know you somehowโ€ฆโ€ Aubree said slowly, seeing Jacinta starting to look a bit anxious.

โ€œBut to be honest, I donโ€™t think weโ€™ve ever met, or at least I donโ€™t remember seeing your face before,โ€ she added after a pause.

Then Aubree laughed suddenly, a realization hitting her. She chuckled, โ€œNow I understand! That strange feeling makes sense: youโ€™ve been mimicking me! And honestly, you do it pretty well. If someone glanced, they might even think you look a bit like me, but not in the way where we are twins, but similar enough that it could catch someoneโ€™s eye. Itโ€™s not just your face; even your style is a bit like mine.โ€

Jacinta forced a smile, much less genuine than before, and replied, โ€œMaybe youโ€™re reading too much into this, Miss Miller?โ€

They both knew there was more going on beneath the surface.

Aubree decided not to say anything further. This visit had turned out to be more interesting than she had thought.

โ€œIโ€™ll let you get back to your work, Jacinta,โ€ she said, closing the office door thoughtfully as she left.

As she walked out, she bumped into Kelvin.

Miss Miller, he greeted her.

Kelvin, she replied, not wanting to chat much.

โ€œDid you just come from Mr. Turnerโ€™s office?โ€ Kelvin asked, looking toward where she had just come from.

Aubree found the question a bit odd but answered, โ€œYes.โ€

โ€œWalt, isnโ€™t Mr. Turnerโ€™s office supposed to be empty?โ€ Kelvin blurted out, genuinely puzzled. โ€˜What could Miss Miller possibly be doing in there if she wasnโ€™t looking for someone?โ€™ he wondered.

โ€œI was looking for Jacinta. She was inside sorting through some files,โ€ Aubree answered calmly.

Kelvin was feeling more confused than ever as he said, โ€œHow did she even get into Mr. Turnerโ€™s office? Organizing files isnโ€™t part of her job.โ€

If it hadnโ€™t been for that buzz online, he wouldnโ€™t have even known who Jacinta was. He thought, โ€˜Sheโ€™s just an ordinary assistant, and sheโ€™s never been given any major tasks, so how did she get into the CEOโ€™s office?โ€™

Aubree started to ask, โ€œDidnโ€™t you tell her toโ€ฆโ€ but then she paused mid-sentence.

โ€œIf Kelvin didnโ€™t send her, then either Jacinta was just sneaking around the office whenever she wanted, or Bowen gave her the go-ahead,โ€ she considered.

Either way, the whole situation was becoming increasingly complicated.
