Chapter 609
Thank goodness this is only his office. I can only imagine how Jacinta might behave if they were at Bowenโs Home.
โIโm here to see you,โ Aubree said, maintaining a friendly smile.
Jacinta looked surprised, responding, โMe? Youโre here for me?โ
โYou seemed to know a lot about Bowen, more than what a typical secretary might know. You even know that Mr. Enrique is sick,โ she pointed out.
Jacinta smiled shyly and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear as she explained, โMr. Turner sometimes chats with me about these things after weโve finished our work, of course.โ
Aubree couldnโt help but think, โIs she suggesting that she and Bowen talk outside of the office too?โ
Admittedly, Jacintaโs words made her feel a bit uneasy.
However, Aubree trusted Bowen, and she knew that anyone could uncover the little things Jacinta had mentioned about him with a bit of digging.
โYou canโt be serious about not knowing why Iโm looking for you, right?โ Aubree asked, facing Jacinta directly.
She noticed a faint smile on Jacintaโs lips as she responded respectfully, โMiss Miller, are you referring to that rumor going around online? Those are just some baseless gossipโsurely you donโt believe any of it, do you?โ
โI wouldnโt go that far. I just wanted to get to know you better. Now that I have, it turns out youโre nothing special,โ Aubree replied.
Aubree glanced at the desk, noticing it was covered in papers. It was clear that Jacinta had been busy organizing them.
After Aubree finished talking, she saw Jacintaโs expression change; it turned serious.
โFrom the moment I walked in, Iโve had this uneasy feelingโlike I know you somehowโฆโ Aubree said slowly, seeing Jacinta starting to look a bit anxious.
โBut to be honest, I donโt think weโve ever met, or at least I donโt remember seeing your face before,โ she added after a pause.
Then Aubree laughed suddenly, a realization hitting her. She chuckled, โNow I understand! That strange feeling makes sense: youโve been mimicking me! And honestly, you do it pretty well. If someone glanced, they might even think you look a bit like me, but not in the way where we are twins, but similar enough that it could catch someoneโs eye. Itโs not just your face; even your style is a bit like mine.โ
Jacinta forced a smile, much less genuine than before, and replied, โMaybe youโre reading too much into this, Miss Miller?โ
They both knew there was more going on beneath the surface.
Aubree decided not to say anything further. This visit had turned out to be more interesting than she had thought.
โIโll let you get back to your work, Jacinta,โ she said, closing the office door thoughtfully as she left.
As she walked out, she bumped into Kelvin.
Miss Miller, he greeted her.
Kelvin, she replied, not wanting to chat much.
โDid you just come from Mr. Turnerโs office?โ Kelvin asked, looking toward where she had just come from.
Aubree found the question a bit odd but answered, โYes.โ
โWalt, isnโt Mr. Turnerโs office supposed to be empty?โ Kelvin blurted out, genuinely puzzled. โWhat could Miss Miller possibly be doing in there if she wasnโt looking for someone?โ he wondered.
โI was looking for Jacinta. She was inside sorting through some files,โ Aubree answered calmly.
Kelvin was feeling more confused than ever as he said, โHow did she even get into Mr. Turnerโs office? Organizing files isnโt part of her job.โ
If it hadnโt been for that buzz online, he wouldnโt have even known who Jacinta was. He thought, โSheโs just an ordinary assistant, and sheโs never been given any major tasks, so how did she get into the CEOโs office?โ
Aubree started to ask, โDidnโt you tell her toโฆโ but then she paused mid-sentence.
โIf Kelvin didnโt send her, then either Jacinta was just sneaking around the office whenever she wanted, or Bowen gave her the go-ahead,โ she considered.
Either way, the whole situation was becoming increasingly complicated.
