Chapter 164: Pulling Olivia Out

The next day, when Olivia arrived on set, she immediately noticed something was amiss. Everyone in the crew was looking at her oddly.

“Does Olivia still not know about it? Poor girl,” one whispered.

“Exactly. I used to think she wasn’t good enough, but these past few shoots convinced me her acting’s better than anyone’s. What a shame,” another added.

Trailing behind Olivia, Jared had dark circles under his eyes. He barely slept last night from his anxiety over Olivia’s situation and was now stumbling as he walked. Hearing the staff’s conversation filled Jared with a sense of dread.

Soon, Jos’s assistant called Olivia over to the director’s chair where Jos was sitting. Jos’s expression was clearly grim. Beside him, Amelia was also there, having been called over.

Jos immediately felt conflicted seeing Olivia.

Amelia began apologizing with a look of guilt the moment she saw Olivia. “Olivia, I’m really sorry about what happened yesterday. I was just trying to update my fans and didn’t expect the rumors… It’s caused such a huge misunderstanding, really…”

Olivia looked at the director and Amelia, immediately sensing that something was wrong. “Did something happen?”

Amelia pursed her lips and looked at Jos.

Jos said, “The investors just called, and they want you pulled out from the movie.”

Olivia narrowed her eyes slightly.

Jared froze completely. “Mr. Jos, is it because Olivia’s acting isn’t good? Why would the investors want her out?”

Jos rubbed his temple and shook his head. “It’s not about her acting. It’s because of the Twitter controversy yesterday.”

Previously, there had been online rumors accusing Olivia of neglecting her work on set to pursue Chris, which had already caused quite an uproar. Then, yesterday, more rumors surfaced claiming Olivia was being arrogant on set, went so far as to slap Amelia, and was altering the script without the crew’s permission.

Normally, Jos wouldn’t have paid attention to useless gossip, but who would have thought the investors would pay attention to the gossip?

Jos looked at Olivia, making his internal struggle clear. If the investors wanted to replace any other actor in the cast, he wouldn’t have minded, but Olivia was the exception. He genuinely didn’t want to let her go.

Noticing Jos’s hesitation, the assistant said to Olivia, “Actually, this movie is very different from Mr. Jos’s usual work, so it’s already risky for the investors. On top of that, it’s a work by Ms. Hannah, and the investors have put in a lot of money by now. They’re worried your negative publicity will affect the movie’s…”

The assistant also looked helpless. He knew how excellent Olivia’s acting was and how beautiful she was. Once the movie was aired, he was sure Olivia would be one of its major highlights. Sadly, the investors didn’t care about any of that. They could care less about her performance and instead cared about their returns. To them, Olivia was just an insignificant supporting actress. They could replace her anytime. Also, there was another reason. Olivia’s past acting had been truly cringeworthy, making it hard for investors to have confidence in her.

“But… How could this happen?” Jared was very upset. Just yesterday, they had been informed that Olivia would have her role expanded. But today… Olivia was going to be pulled from the cast? It was a huge turn of events.

Amelia watched Jos speak to Olivia, a hint of satisfaction flashing in her eyes before she put on a regretful expression and looked at Olivia. “I never expected such a huge misunderstanding. I’ll tweet something later to explain to the fans it was all just part of the filming.”

Daisy, standing beside Amelia, looked on in dismay. She thought it would be better if Olivia left. Afraid that Amelia might keep pleading for Olivia, she quickly found an excuse to lead her away.

Watching Amelia pretend to leave reluctantly, Olivia smirked. No one knew Amelia’s true nature better than Olivia. The recent rumors about her were almost certainly orchestrated by Amelia. If they wanted to destroy her, it wouldn’t be that easy.

Olivia looked at Jos. “Mr. Jos, isn’t the trailer for A Little Spark of Joy set to be released in the next few days?”
