Chapter 358: Am I Really Ill?

The family doctor was baffled. Given Daxton’s size, he even struggled to move him back to the wheelchair—how did this seemingly fragile girl manage it? Unaware of her extraordinary feat, Olivia pushed a bewildered Daxton towards the set.

Daxton was internally alarmed. This girl’s strength… it was unusual, almost unnatural. His suspicions grew, but as the “abandoned old man,” he could only continue to play the fool.

On set, Jared asked, completely puzzled, “Olivia, what’s going on with this elderly gentleman?”

Why had Olivia returned with an elderly man after such a short while? “Just now, this gentleman accidentally fell into the water…” Olivia briefly explained.

Jared was at a loss for words and looked at Olivia hesitantly. Meanwhile, a passing crew member overheard Olivia’s adventure and was incredulous. “Olivia, did you run into a scammer?”

Daxton, pretending to be ill, thought, How dare he speak like that! Who’s scamming? Don’t talk nonsense!

“Scammer?” Olivia asked.

The crew member explained, “You haven’t seen enough social news, have you? There are many elderly scammers who exploit people’s sympathy to extort money.”

If Daxton weren’t feigning illness, he’d have leapt up to correct him. They talk too much! Although annoyed at being accused of scamming, Daxton felt somewhat guilty.

Jared, too, glanced at Olivia. It wasn’t that the crew member was overly suspicious, but rather… Olivia’s situation did indeed seem like a classic scam.

“Just think about it,” the crew member continued, “he falls into the water and claims he’s inhaled a bit, which is believable, but then—suddenly he’s having heart and breathing troubles? Seems like he’s just trying to latch onto you, Olivia. I’ve seen plenty of these cases; let me handle this old fraud.”

As the crew member rolled up his sleeves and moved towards Daxton, Olivia stopped him. “Get lost.” The crew member sulked.

“This old man truly has a heart condition, even though there are no obvious symptoms yet; he is indeed afflicted,” Olivia clarified.

Daxton instinctively nodded, relieved his ruse hadn’t been exposed. But then, he paused. “I… I have a heart condition?”

Olivia, oblivious to Daxton’s internal turmoil, continued, “When I checked your pulse earlier, I noticed your heartbeat was strong but irregularly rhythmic, likely due to medication affecting your heart rate.”

Olivia sighed to herself, suspecting that his condition was the work of his neglectful family but had chosen not to upset him by mentioning it.

“Medication?” Daxton was genuinely shocked.
