Chapter 224
Jacob stared into her big, beautiful eyes and finally realized something: she thought his skills werenโt good enough. He understood. โNatalie, Iโll study hard. Iโm not really scared of that woman.โ
Natalie chuckled, looking at his captivating face. โDonโt make such bold claims. Itโs not about whether youโre afraid of her, but about her being interested in you.โ
Natalie brought him some fruit. โHave some fruit. Iโll introduce you to a few mentors. If you want to stay and take care of your grandma, you can study alongside them. Just keep moving forward with effort, and thatโs the best way. Once youโve achieved success, maybe you wonโt have to work for anyone else; youโll be able to get whatever you want.โ
Jacob felt a warmth ignite in his eyes after hearing her heartfelt words. He nodded earnestly. โAlright! Natalie, Iโll study hard. I want to stay here to keep Grandma company.โ
Natalie said, โGreat! Then Iโll help you arrange for a tutor. Which university did you get into?โ
โShagrity Technology University.โ
โThatโs wonderful. I happen to know a mentor there. Heโs very fair and can accompany you to places you want to.โ After saying that, Natalie immediately contacted Trent. She then had Jacob exchange contact info with him.
Seeing the name, Jacob was surprised. โNatalie, you know Professor Trent Moraros?โ
โHe was my mentor, but heโs very strict. Just because I recommend you doesnโt mean heโll accept you. Youโll have to work hard on your own.โ
โThatโs great, Natalie! Iโll really work hard. Iโve always wanted to be his student, but I never had the chance to meet him.โ Jacob was so excited he almost cried, amazed by this opportunity.
At the same time, he realized there was a difference between them. No wonder Natalie didnโt think highly of his skills; being Trentโs student, her skills were naturally better than his.
He felt ashamed for having doubted her earlier. He had just been through too many bad experiences before, which made him wary of everyone.
He didnโt ask her anymore why she was helping him like this; knowing her intentions were genuine was enough for him.
In the afternoon, Jacobโs grandmother finally came out of surgery.
Chris looked exhausted, but he still explained, โKid, your grandmaโs surgery was successful. As long as she takes her meds on time, her health shouldnโt have any major issues.โ
Tears welled up in Jacobโs eyes as he thanked Chris. โDr. Johnson, thank you so much!โ
Chris said, โNo need to thank me, but thank Natalie. Without her getting me this job as the director, your grandmaโs surgery wouldnโt have happened.โ
Natalie laughed and said, โChris, are you just showing off that youโre the director now?โ
Chris laughed and suddenly felt energetic, patting Natalie on the shoulder. โNatalie, Iโm only 25, have you seen a 25-year-old doctor become a director? Letโs go, I want to brag to my friends about it!โ Chris left with a smile.
Chapter 221
Natalie shook her head as she watched him leave and said, โChris, we really need to keep everyone off this floor, and you should handle the medicine changes personally.โ
Chris was puzzled. โWhy?โ
Natalie didnโt give a reason. โChris, you need to take care of the medicine changes yourself for the next three days. Iโm worried someone might cause trouble.โ
Chris understood right away. โAlright, I got it. Youโve worked all day, go and rest. Iโll be on call at the hospital for the next three days, and Iโll make sure to have someone I trust watch over the place!โ Chris knew that her words indicated there might be danger.
Jacob was also aware that Natalie was worried Jennifer might cause trouble.
Natalie guessed right. By the next day, a woman, pretending to be a nurse, entered Jacobโs grandmaโs hospital room.
Just as she was about to remove the oxygen tube, Jacob rushed in and stopped her.
The woman, in a panic, ran away. Chris happened to come by to change the medicine and saw the woman leaving hastily.
Chris was shocked. Unable to stop the woman, he checked on Jacobโs grandma instead. Only the oxygen mask was removed; everything else was fine.
โI was terrified. If that oxygen mask had been off for ten minutes, your grandma wouldnโt have survived.โ Chris patted his chest, realizing Natalie was right after all.
Chris said, โKid, until your grandma wakes up, you canโt leave her side from now on. Iโll have everything you need brought here. If anything happens, call me right away. Tomorrowโs the last day; once itโs over, sheโll be alright.โ
Jacobโs expression was grim. โAlright, Dr. Johnson, thank you!โ
โNo worries, just doing my job.โ After that near scare, Chris left slowly, his legs weak, worried about a medical mishap. Jacob looked at his grandmaโs kind face and let out a sigh of relief. He whispered, โGrandma, youโll be alright. Since Jennifer would destroy anything she couldnโt have, he would take his revenge for that, too.
Natalie received the message from Jacob, saying someone tried to pull out his grandmaโs oxygen tube. Natalie advised him not to leave the hospital room.
Jennifer knew the plan had failed, making it difficult to find another opportunity.
She looked at Oliver, her eyes cold. โBesides him, can we find any other kids?โ
Oliver nodded. โYes! This field is never short of talent. This time, I found one of Jacob Parkerโs rivals. His family isnโt well-off, and he relies on scholarships for college tuition.โ
Oliver further explained, โHis talent is about the same as Jacobโsโฆโ
Jennifer gave an eerie smile that made people shudder. โGet him to join our company. I want to meet him first before arranging things for him.โ
Oliver chuckled. โAlright! His name is Howard Hanson, and he has a better network than Jacob. Heโs one of Professor Matrickโs students at school.โ
Jennifer was very pleased. โGreat, go find him now. I want their whole team working for our company.โ
Oliver laughed. โMs. Simpson, your idea is brilliant. They are young and passionate right now, eager to make their mark in the company, and they do everything possible for its success.โ
Oliver thought, With just a little incentive, theyโll give their all. Especially kids from regular families.
Jennifer understood how to play with peopleโs emotions, so she specifically chose those in need of help.
Jennifer said, โGo on. As for Jacob Parker, if I canโt have him, no one else will either. Find a way to ruin him.โ
Oliver replied. โAlright! Our people havenโt been caught, but Jacob might suspect us.โ
Jennifer sneered arrogantly. โSo what if he suspects? He has nothing at all, and what can he possibly do?โ
Oliver thought the same. Jacob was just a young guy, so he really didnโt take him seriously.
Time flew by. Natalie hadnโt seen Easton for several days.
She lay on the couch, remembering that in her previous life, he had gone abroad, and when he came back, he was hurt and seemed dangerous.
But by then, he no longer needed her by his side; instead, it was Jennifer who was with him.
Tomorrow was going to be Vanceโs wedding. In the afternoon, Natalie received a message from Tiana, inviting her to go to Vanceโs wedding the next day.
