Chapter 78
“What is it?” Wilson asked coldly.
Tiana, unaware of his anger, said anxiously, “Mr. Farrell, I’m sorry to disturb you, but can you help me check on Yvonne? She just sent me a goodbye message, and I’m worried she might do something foolish. Since her dad and I aren’t around, I don’t know who else to ask. Yvonne was reckless, but she doesn’t deserve to die.” Tears welled up in her eyes.
Though Wilson thought Yvonne had acted stupidly, he immediately left his office after ending the call. Someone’s life might be in danger; besides, he wanted Yvonne’s explanation.
He told Jackie to have the driver pick him up. When they arrived at Yvonne’s house and knocked, there was no answer. Wilson rarely visited, so he didn’t know the door code. He tried her birthday, unsuccessfully. After a moment’s thought, he tried his own, and the door unlocked.
He rushed inside. The house was in disarray, and Yvonne was nowhere to be found. He searched until he found her in the bathroom, unconscious and bleeding from a wrist wound.
Yvonne had slit her wrist, but only after calling Wilson. The cut wasn't deep, and she hadn't lost much blood. To heighten the drama, she'd taken sleeping pills to simulate a coma, but not enough to require stomach pumping.
She’d gone all out to manipulate Wilson, following her mother’s instructions: writing a goodbye letter, even adding tears to it.
When Yvonne awoke, she was in a luxurious ward at a Farrell Group hospital. The abundant sunlight confirmed she was in the best room—her plan had worked. Wilson wasn't there, but Jackie was, reporting Yvonne's awakening. Wilson arrived shortly, still angry but trying to control his emotions.
“The doctor says you’re fine and just need to rest for a few days.”
Yvonne attempted to sit up, supporting herself with her uninjured hand, then feigned weakness and fell back onto the bed. Wilson caught her. She quickly wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned heavily against him, moving too fast for him to react.
She began to cry, playing the weak, pitiful victim. “I know I was wrong, Wilson. I shouldn’t have contacted you or anyone. I was just so angry at Zoey for bullying me. I had no other choice…” Her sobs silenced her remaining words. Wilson frowned and patted her back comfortingly.
“What did Zoey do to you to make you do something so foolish behind my back?”
