Chapter 79

Yvonne had already written everything in her letter to Wilson, so she didn't need to say much. Her current display was merely an act, designed to appear realistic. She remained in his embrace, gazing up at him with tear-filled eyes.

“When I went for my trial makeup with Zoey, she deliberately made me look ugly. She gave me ill-fitting clothes to sabotage me. She also violently pulled my hair during styling, leaving my head swollen. But that’s nothing; I endured it all.”

She continued, “What angered me most was her constant accusations of interfering in your relationship, Wilson. She called us a perfect match—a ‘bitch’ and a ‘bastard,’ she said. She even threatened to return those thirteen slaps.”

“I didn't mind her scolding, but why humiliate you? I couldn't scold her back, let alone hit her, so I was at a loss. Then, my manager suggested this foolish plan. Impulsively, I agreed.”

He wasn't foolish at all. After all, he'd seen many people in the business world.

Hearing this, Wilson looked at Yvonne doubtfully. Her explanation, while seemingly flawless, felt too convenient for him to believe.

“Are you saying your manager told you to use the knock-off gown to deal with Zoey and Duphine?”

Yvonne held his gaze, acutely aware of his skepticism.

She added hastily, “I’m telling the truth! If you don’t believe me, ask my manager. Wilson, the whole world is condemning me. If you doubt me too, there’s no point in living. You should have just let me die…”

Her voice was pitiful, her eyes swollen. Her acting, though passable, was persuasive. Wilson said nothing, simply staring at her with a somber expression. His gaze was judgmental, each breath heavy with unspoken thoughts.

Feeling his skepticism, Yvonne grew terrified. Her heart pounded under his intense scrutiny, but she maintained a calm facade. Gathering her courage, she coyly tugged his sleeve. “Won’t you trust me, Wilson?”

After a long silence, Wilson said calmly, “Alright. But don’t do it again.”

Relieved, the worry on Yvonne’s face vanished. “Then, are you still angry? Can you forgive me?”

Wilson quietly withdrew his hand, smoothing the wrinkles on his sleeve. “You can fight back against Duphine, but use your brain. I doubt Duphine is foolish enough to fall for such petty tricks. Otherwise, I wouldn't have gone to so much trouble to get her to agree to the divorce.”

Yvonne was surprised. Her feigned suicide attempt was meant to secure his belief in her innocence, but she hadn't expected it to work so quickly. A little crying and coyness had apparently erased the incident from his mind.

At that moment, she felt her tantrum had worked perfectly, and that Wilson truly liked her. “You’re the best, Wilson. I love you so much.”
