Chapter 84

Meanwhile, Sebastian focused on driving, occasionally glancing at Daphne to gauge her excitement. They arrived at the courthouse at 10:00 a.m. sharp, but Wilson hadn't arrived. Daphne waited patiently for over thirty minutes, but he still didn't appear. Noticing the absence of messages on her phone, her patience began to wear thin.

“Don’t tell me that bastard is going to stand me up,” she grumbled. Her earlier high spirits had completely evaporated. “I told him not to play any tricks, but he’s doing it again!”

Furious, she called Wilson repeatedly, but he didn't answer. She contacted Yvonne.

“Yvonne, what’s going on? Where is Wilson? Find out if he’s coming!”

Yvonne responded angrily to Daphne’s bluntness. “Daphne, why are you still looking for him after your relationship has soured?”

Daphne scoffed. “Are you out of your mind, Yvonne? Do you think I want to see him? We’re supposed to collect our divorce certificate today. If either of us doesn't show up, our application will be rejected, and we'll have to wait another thirty days to reapply. Do you want that?”

Yvonne, realizing the gravity of the situation, panicked. “I-I really have no idea where he is. I haven’t seen him today and can’t reach him either. W-wait, I’ll look for him right now!”

“You’d better be quick, and don't do anything stupid to delay my divorce!” Daphne scolded before ending the call. She desperately wanted to be free, and the delay was infuriating.

Sebastian was also upset. “Why is Wilson going back on his word?”

“Who knows? He should be more impatient than me. Could he have died on his way here? Got into an accident? That’s the only explanation.”

Daphne was frustrated. Her anticipated freedom felt cruelly snatched away. She leaned weakly against the car and cursed to relieve her anger.

“I can’t believe that useless Yvonne. Why didn’t she keep an eye on Wilson on such an important day? She should’ve dragged him to the courthouse if she had to. After all, how else is she going to be his wife if I don’t get a divorce?”

Sebastian patted her shoulder comfortingly. “Let’s go home and not waste any more time. If we can reach him before the courthouse closes, I’ll drive you back.”

“Sure,” she nodded, still frustrated. She was grateful for Sebastian's support. Otherwise, she would have completely lost it.

Daphne waited at home for hours, with no news from Wilson. She wondered if her earlier curses had somehow jinxed him. “Did Wilson really die? That would work perfectly for me. I’d get everything from him that way.”

The courthouse closed at 5:30 p.m. Daphne lay on her couch, clinging to hope. At 5:00 p.m., a wave of disappointment washed over her as she cursed aloud.

Unknown to Daphne, Wilson had gone to the courthouse that day. At 10:00 a.m., he saw her happily talking to Sebastian at the entrance. He signaled his driver not to open the door. He stared at her with a cold gaze. His driver, knowing his employer well, obeyed.

Wilson waited, observing Daphne's apparent happiness and lack of sadness about the divorce. He was about to leave when his phone rang. It was Julie Moore, Leena's caretaker.

“Mr. Farrell, Mrs. Farrell Senior has just fainted, and she’s being rushed to Farrell Hospital!”
