Chapter 93

No one jumped to conclusions about Wilson and Daphne's divorce until it was publicly announced. As long as they hadn't made a public statement, Daphne remained Wilson's legal wife. However, Yvonne was widely known as Wilson's beloved. This left Joe in a difficult position, unable to choose a side.

Daphne hated the misunderstanding surrounding her connection to Wilson. Whether it was sympathy or ridicule, she couldn't bear it. It felt as if she'd seen something filthy in the street, making her want to avoid it entirely.

She said calmly, "Mr. Bran, Wilson and I are divorcing. My work is separate from his, so my identity shouldn't influence your decisions. Yvonne is also correct about the endorsement. Until a contract is signed, we're all equal competitors. Please proceed with your standard procedures. I understand completely."

Her composure eased Joe's concerns. He hadn't meant to belittle Daphne; he was simply wistful. He sighed, "I always thought you and Mr. Farrell were a perfect match. Life is unpredictable."

Daphne remained polite, offering no response. Only those involved truly understood the marriage's joys and sorrows. What use was being "a perfect match"? Both parties still needed to work at the relationship.

Joe led Daphne to the Sherry Group's meeting room. Inside, Yvonne and another woman were casually sipping coffee and chatting. Upon seeing Daphne and Joe, the woman stood and greeted them politely. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Yeager. I'm Jean Walsh, Yvonne's new manager."

Yvonne didn't even look up. She mocked, "Why bother? She might not appreciate it."

Daphne ignored Yvonne's snarky comment, but out of politeness, she shook Jean's hand. "Hello, nice to meet you," Daphne said. Then, pointedly and sarcastically, she added, "Ms. Walsh, tread carefully. Don't let your artist drag you into trouble. Some people are shameless, blaming others when things go wrong. They have powerful connections, but you're alone as an employee."

Yvonne glared. "What do you mean, Daphne?"

Daphne shrugged nonchalantly. "Nothing specific. Just a friendly reminder from a veteran to a newcomer. Unless, of course, the shoe fits?"

Sensing tension, Jean quickly interjected, fearing a fight. "Thank you for your reminder, Ms. Yeager. Yvonne is nice and treats me well, so I'll do my best to help her."

Daphne met Yvonne's angry gaze calmly. "She's nice? Fine. If you say so."

Nice? What a joke!

Daphne's sharp features made her appear fierce when she wasn't smiling. Coupled with her time with Wilson, her presence commanded authority, easily overpowering Yvonne.
