Chapter 152 Push Me
Janessa was completely dumbfounded. Something is off! The story isnโt supposed to unfold this way. Madelyn was supposed to look for Christopherโฆ How is she here instead?
Janessa couldnโt make sense of it all, so she had no choice but to argue loudly, โMadelyn, I swear I didnโt mishear you. You clearly told me just now that Christopher had a car accident. You were rushing to see him.โ
Upon hearing these words, Madelyn looked utterly confused. โWhy should I go see Christopher? Heโs not related to me in any way. Sure, weโre classmates, but weโre not that close. Why on earth would I go see him? I would be out of my mind. Besides, I have a banquet to attend. Why would I possibly abandon such an important event to go see a classmate Iโm not even close with?โ
After Madelyn finished speaking, she innocently looked at Sebastian and asked, โSebastian, you agree with me, right?โ
Sebastian remained silent, his icy gaze fixed on Janessa. โMs. Sherritt, what exactly were you trying to convey with what you said to me?โ
Janessa had no choice but to cover her mouth, shaking her head. โSebastian, believe me. I didnโt lie. It was Madelyn. Sheโฆโ
โWhatโs wrong with me? Janessa, arenโt we good friends? How come you wouldnโt even help me out by telling Sebastian I was in the bathroom?โ Madelyn innocently asked, and her face abruptly paled a second later as she looked at Janessa in disbelief. โJanessa, you didnโt tell Sebastian that I went to look after Christopher, did you?โ
Janessa was at a loss for words because she indeed said exactly that.
Upon seeing her silence, Madelyn immediately scolded with a pale face, โJanessa! How could you do this? I never said I was going to look for Christopher. How could you speak without understanding the situation? You nearly caused a disaster. Sebastian almost misunderstood me. Do you understand?โ
Janessa was utterly speechless. For quite a while, she didnโt know how to react. What on earth is happening? My plan isnโt supposed to go like this!
However, it seemed that no matter how much she tried to explain herself, Sebastian wouldnโt believe her. At that point, his face had already turned completely cold.
If the argument continued, it probably wouldnโt do any good for her.
After a moment, Janessa finally gathered her thoughts and managed to explain, โPโPerhaps I misunderstood. Iโm sorry, Madelyn. Sebastian, it was my mistake. I hope you wonโt take it to heart.โ
Upon seeing her like this, Madelyn couldnโt help but scoff inwardly. Oh? After your scheme failed, do you think playing innocent and begging for mercy will work? Unfortunately, it isnโt that simple.
With that in mind, Madelyn put on a convincingly angry face and thundered, โJanessa, this is not the first time. Youโve been treating me like this over and over again. What are you really up to?โ
With that, Madelyn, quite frustrated, hooked her arm around Sebastianโs arm and headed straight toward Lockhart Manor.
Janessa couldnโt just accept it. She quickly chased after them in her high heels.
Grasping Madelynโs hand, she pleaded, โMadelyn, can you let me explain properly? There must be some misunderstanding here. Itโs not what youโre thinking!โ
Madelyn turned around impatiently, immediately shaking off her hand. โThereโs nothing to explain!โ
โBut Iโโ Janessa attempted to interject once more.
โWill you ever stop?โ Madelyn pulled away once again.
Surprisingly, when she shook Janessa off, Janessa let go of her hand. Janessaโs high heel suddenly twisted, causing her to lose her balance and tumble down.
Next to them was a swimming pool. That morning, Marsha had just had the pool cleaned by the workers, filling it with fresh water.
With a splash, Janessa had fallen, causing countless droplets to scatter.
The guests watched in shock, exclaiming. โSomeoneโs fallen into the water!โ
โHuh? Someone fell into the water?โ
โQuick! Take a look!โ
For a moment, all eyes were drawn to the swimming pool.
Indeed, they saw a woman bobbing up and down on the waterโs surface as if she could sink at any moment.
โHelp me!โ Janessa, who never learned how to swim, found herself struggling in the water.
โI canโt swim! Save meโฆโ Janessa had barely gotten the words out when she swallowed a mouthful of pool water.
Onlookers watched with growing concern, yet none stepped forward to offer help.
Janessa knew that Sebastian was a good swimmer. At that moment, she called out desperately, โSebastian, save me! Save me!โ
After speaking, she took a big gulp of the disinfected water from the swimming pool.
Janessa was in such agony that she felt as if she were on the verge of death. All she could do was stare desperately at Sebastian, hoping he would leap into action and play the hero to save her.
However, Sebastian was merely observing with a cool detachment from the sidelines.
With so many people around, there was no need for him to play the hero. Besides, he was unsure of this womanโs intentions just moments ago. Sebastian was actually curious to see what kind of spectacle she could stir up next.
Madelyn, however, was utterly taken aback. The force with which I pushed her away earlier was clearly not that strong. It was hardly enough to make her lose her balance, let alone enough to cause her to fall into the water!
With that in mind, Madelyn was seething with anger, thinking Janessa had just shot herself in the foot. If it werenโt for Agnesโ birthday, she wouldnโt have wanted to help her at all.
However, it was Agnesโ birthday, and it wasnโt easy to throw such a big party with so many people showing up.
Madelyn certainly didnโt want her own matters to cast a shadow over Agnesโ birthday banquet.
Besides, all she wanted was to teach Janessa a lesson. It wasnโt as if she was planning to kill her.
Therefore, Madelyn quickly called for security, exclaiming,
โHurry! Get her out of there!โ
Without a second thought, the security guard dove into the water, rescuing the flailing Janessa.
In less than two minutes, they had gotten out of the pool. Janessa, drenched from head to toe, was laid on the ground.
โAre you okay?โ Madelyn moved closer, a hint of worry lacing her voice.
After choking on the water twice, Janessa suddenly cast a reproachful look at Madelyn. โMadelyn, I know Iโve wronged you, but why did you have to push me into the water?โ
What? Madelyn was taken aback, having not expected that after deliberately falling into the water, Janessa would unexpectedly turn the tables.
The spectators nearby watched this scene unfold, sparking a flurry of discussions. The consensus was that Madelyn had pushed someone into the water.
At that moment, Beatrice seemed to appear out of nowhere.
Right off the bat, she started to ridicule Madelyn by saying, โMadelyn, the Lockhart family is hosting a banquet this evening. As hosts, we should ensure every guest enjoys their treatment. Yet, you actually pushed a guest into the water. Tsk! How embarrassing for you!โ
