Listen to this chapter:

Madelyn opened her mouth and found herself at a loss for words, a sense of resignation washing over her. Heโ€™s unwilling to believe me, then no amount of explanation will help. I have to do things slowly.

Before long, they had arrived at the campus.

As soon as Madelyn stepped into the classroom, she spotted Janessa engaged in hushed whispers with a few others, discussing something she couldnโ€™t quite discern.

Recalling the photos from that morning, Madelyn was pissed off. Janessa is truly despicable!

โ€œMadelyn, youโ€™re here.โ€ At that moment, Janessa spotted Madelyn and immediately put on a warm demeanor.

Madelyn scoffed. Fake and pretentious as always!

She couldnโ€™t be bothered to respond to Janessa and went straight back to her own seat.

โ€œWhy is she acting like this? She didnโ€™t even bother to acknowledge you.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™re all classmates here. Why is she putting on airs?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s awful and so arrogant.โ€

The female classmates beside Janessa couldnโ€™t help but complain about Madelyn.

Janessa smiled wryly, presenting herself as considerate. โ€œPerhaps sheโ€™s just not in a good mood. Itโ€™s all right. As a friend, itโ€™s only right that I empathize with her.โ€

Someone at the side promptly chimed in, โ€œJanessa, youโ€™re truly wonderful. Itโ€™s such a blessing for Madelyn to have a friend like you.โ€

Janessa smiled smugly.

Then, the class began.

The professor gentlemanly walked up to the podium and, without further ado, announced, โ€œStudents, today we are going to reveal the results of our previous examination.โ€

The classroom erupted into a commotion.

The previous exam was a comprehensive assessment of the entire course, and the scores would directly impact the accumulation of credit hours at graduation. That was of utmost importance for the Department of Finance students!

Thus, for a moment, everyone in the class was excited.

Madelyn was no exception, feeling a mix of nervousness and excitement. She was unsure about how well she had done in her exam.

At that moment, the professor suddenly spoke. โ€œFirstly, before announcing the results, Iโ€™d like to commendโ€ฆโ€

The professor continued, โ€œShe used to be the one with the poorest performance in our entire course. However, this time, through her relentless efforts, she successfully made it into the top hundred. Itโ€™s a significant leap in quality! I believe everyone could learn a thing or two from her in the future.โ€

Having said that, the professor turned his gaze toward Madelyn. With a kind smile, he praised, โ€œMadelyn, youโ€™ve made significant progress recently. As your professor, Iโ€™m truly proud of you!โ€

The classroom was once again abuzz with discussions among the students.

โ€œWhy is it her?โ€

โ€œDoesnโ€™t Madelyn dislike studying?โ€

โ€œWell, thereโ€™s always a time when people come to their senses.โ€

For a moment, Madelyn was somewhat flabbergasted.

Suddenly, it dawned on her that the person who ranked within the top hundred in the department was none other than her!

However, she wasnโ€™t too happy because she wasnโ€™t entirely satisfied with that result. It seems I didnโ€™t work hard enough. Otherwise, I wouldโ€™ve been in a higher spot.

The professor continued, โ€œMadelyn, your progress this term has been remarkable. I hope you can stand and share with everyone about your journey of improvement.โ€

Madelyn was taken aback.

Subsequently, she rose to her feet and spoke, poised and dignified. โ€œHonestly, I didnโ€™t put in much effort. I had a good tutor, thatโ€™s all. Oh, and of course, Iโ€™m not saying our professors arenโ€™t good. However, as you know, I was quite a b*stard before, so I needed extra tutoring.โ€

Upon hearing that, the professor burst into laughter. He had never encountered a student who dared to call themself a bโ€™stard before.

He then praised, โ€œYour attitude toward learning is commendable. I hope youโ€™ll continue this way. Please have a seat.โ€

Madelyn then took a seat.

She was delighted that the professor praised her even though she only made it to the top hundred.

Then, the professor began to announce everyoneโ€™s grades.

Eventually, he said, โ€œFor this examination, the top student in our department is also the top student in our class. That person isโ€ฆโ€

Suddenly, the entire class fell silent, as if everyone collectively held their breath.

The tension was palpable as if it was the final moments of a singing competition, where it was down to the last two contestants.

Janessa was praying that she would be the one. Please, let me win first place!

The class was instantly filled with sighs and groans.

โ€œUgh, why is it always her? I thought I did really well this time.โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s incredible. As expected of the top student.โ€

โ€œIt seems like Jilian is an existence we were destined to never surpass.โ€

As for Janessa, she remained in second place.

Ever since she arrived at that university, Jilian had consistently overshadowed her in terms of grades. No matter what she did, she couldnโ€™t surpass Jilian.

Furious, Janessa gritted her teeth and glared at Jilian with malice.

Before long, the class was over.

Once class ended, Janessa rushed over to Madelynโ€™s side, feigning enthusiasm as she congratulated her. โ€œMadelyn, you actually made it into the top hundred this time. Thatโ€™s amazing!โ€

โ€œIs that so?โ€ Madelyn smiled faintly, but she was secretly getting alert.

Typically, no good came whenever Janessa treated her nicely.

Sure enough, Janessa changed the subject. โ€œBy the way, Madelyn, you should be careful these days.โ€

โ€œWhat should I be careful of?โ€ asked Madelyn.

Janessa feigned sighing. โ€œItโ€™s all my fault for not investigating thoroughly. You see, Christopher has a fiancรฉe all along, and it seems like sheโ€™s recently become aware of you. I suspect she might try to cause you some trouble, so you really need to be careful.โ€

Madelyn frowned and recalled that, in her past life, Christopher did have a fiancรฉe named Yvette Langdon.

Yvette was quite the spoiled child, with a straightforward and fiery personality. In her previous life, due to Christopher, she and Madelyn had their fair share of confrontations.

Back then, Janessa thrived on chaos, doing everything she could to tarnish Yvetteโ€™s reputation.

Back then, Madelyn had complete faith in Janessa, which was why, in her previous life, she always found Yvette irksome.

Madelynโ€™s recollection made her suddenly feel that Yvette was a straightforward woman who was true to herself.

It was just that, back then, Madelyn was blind and failed to see Yvetteโ€™s good side.

Hmm, based on the previous timeline, Yvetteโ€™s appearance is nowhere near this early. It seems Janessa canโ€™t wait any longer. In my previous life, ever since Yvette appeared, misunderstandings between me and Sebastian deepened time and again thanks to Janessaโ€™s instigation. I remember this indirectly leading Sebastian to consent to the dissolution of our engagement. Upon thinking of that, Madelyn couldnโ€™t help but grit her teeth. I suffered last time, but I wonโ€™t let Janessa succeed again!
