Chapter 176 Like Him Back
โReally? What does Christopherโs fiancรฉe have to do with me?โ Madelyn asked, smiling nonchalantly.
Janessa was immediately taken aback.
Then, she raised her voice and said, โHow can it not concern you? Christopher likes you, and you like Christopher. Thatโs something many people are aware of! Now that his fiancรฉe has shown up, arenโt you afraid she might target you?โ
She did that on purpose so everyone around them could hear her.
Sure enough, the people around turned to Madelyn with disdain and whispered amongst each other.
โGoodness, sheโs not going to try to snatch someone elseโs fiancรฉ, will she?โ
โI heard about her bad character long ago, and now it seems she really is capable of doing anything.โ
โItโll be best if we limit our interactions with her in the future.โ
Upon hearing those words, Madelyn was enraged.
She retorted instantly, โOh? However, from what I see, Christopher seems to be closer to you, doesnโt he? I even thought that you were the one he was fond of.โ
โWhat?โ Janessa was clearly taken aback.
Madelyn continued her seemingly casual assault. โIsnโt it true? I see you two together all the time, acting as if you canโt live without each other. I thought you two were really close.โ
โSo, sheโs trying to pin the blame on someone else.โ The crowd immediately shifted their attention once again, casting disdainful glances toward Janessa.
Upon hearing that, Janessa panicked.
Originally, her plan was to shift the blame onto Madelyn, but it ended up backfiring.
Janessa was ready to say something when someone outside shouted, โWho is Madelyn Thornton?โ
Soon, the owner of the voice appeared outside the door.
Although Yvette wasnโt particularly tall, she had a stunning figure, and her face was rather delicately pretty.
At that time, she was dressed in a denim jacket and shorts with her hair styled into a bun. As such, she appeared fashionable and chic.
She stood at the doorway, hands on her hips. Using her distinctive, high-pitched voice, she asked again, โIโm talking to you all! Who is Madelyn?โ
Her fiery demeanor truly lived up to its reputation.
For a moment, everyone around fell silent, daring not to speak. All the crowd could do was silently direct.
Immediately, accompanied by two lackeys, she strode over aggressively. โWhich one of you two is Madelyn?โ
โUmโฆ.โ Upon hearing that, Janessa hesitated, casting a glance at Madelyn.
Madelyn stood up, facing Yvette head-on. โIโm Madelyn. Whatโs the matter?โ
Upon seeing her audacious demeanor, Yvette was furious. โSo, itโs you! Tell me, were you secretly trying to seduce my fiancรฉ behind my back?โ
โNope,โ Madelyn rebutted without hesitation.
โPah!โ Suddenly, Yvette raised her voice haughtily. โDo you think itโs not true just because you said so? I only found out about this because someone else tattled! If you werenโt truly seducing my fiancรฉ, why would anyone report this to me? Christopher is taken, you hear that? His fiancรฉe is me! I suggest you give up on him as soon as possible. Otherwise, I wonโt let you off easily.โ
Madelyn noticed something Yvette said. Tattle, eh?
She couldnโt help but cast a meaningful glance at Janessa. Who else could it be except her?
In response, Janessa shuddered and backed away a step.
Then, Madelyn sneered, โMs. Langdon, youโve truly misunderstood. I have absolutely no interest in your fiancรฉ.โ
โYeah,โ chimed in Janessa to stir the pot. โMs. Langdon, you must have misunderstood Madelyn. I can vouch for it. Christopher and her are just friends.โ
After hearing those explanations, Yvette scoffed with disdain. โDonโt think Iโm unaware. Youโre just bold enough to act but not to own up! Who would dare to admit theyโre the homewrecker?โ
After she finished speaking, she stared straight at Madelyn. โDonโt think that if you deny this, Iโll act as if nothing happened. Iโm warning you today. If you donโt keep your distance from my fiancรฉ, I will definitely make you understand the consequences of trying to steal my betrothed!โ
Anyone could tell from Yvetteโs brash tone that she was not a woman to be trifled with.
To her surprise, Madelyn actually laughed and spoke nonchalantly. โRest assured. Iโm merely an acquaintance of your fiancรฉ. Weโre far from close, and we canโt even be considered friends. Besides, Iโm not one to covet what others have. Since heโs your fiancรฉ, Iโll keep my distance. I wonโt harbor any thoughts about him. Is this answer satisfactory to you?โ
โLโฆโ Yvette didnโt anticipate that Madelyn would be so agreeable. Consequently, she was left with a surge of anger that she had nowhere to vent, which ironically made her feel uneasy.
โOh, thatโs right.โ Madelyn suddenly seemed to remember something. โJanessa, I noticed that youโve been spending time with Christopher often. Could it be that people have seen you two together and theyโve misunderstood your relationship?โ
What the heck? Janessaโs expression changed when she heard that. Why did she suddenly mention me?
Upon hearing that, Yvette was equally taken aback and confused. She turned around to question her.
At that moment, the classmates nearby also began to whisper among themselves.
โThereโs no way, right? Iโve never seen Madelyn and Christopher together before.โ
โExactly, but Iโve actually seen Janessa and Christopher together a few times. They seemed to be quite close.โ
Madelyn grinned smugly as she listened to the conversations around them.
Then, she turned to Yvette, acting concerned. โMs. Langdon, I believe there must be some misunderstanding here. Please, donโt let yourself be manipulated.โ
Yvette was more than upset. She immediately glared at Janessa. โAfter all this fuss, the other person turns out to be you!โ
Upon sensing that things werenโt going her way, Janessa grew anxious and suddenly turned to Madelyn. โMadelyn, donโt talk nonsense. Itโs clear that the person Christopher likes is you. Everyone knows this!โ
Upon hearing those words, Madelyn snapped in fury, โJanessa, what are you saying? Just because Christopher likes me doesnโt mean I have to like him back!โ
After saying that, she stared at Janessa with a skeptical look. โWait, youโre my best friend. Why would you say something that could be easily misunderstood by others? Could it be that you have some sort of agenda?โ
