Chapter 326: Falling In Love

โ€œDo you know them?โ€ Hayden asked, a hint of confusion in his tone as he noticed Janessaโ€™s gaze fixed in that direction.

โ€œOf course,โ€ Janessa responded calmly. โ€œThose two are Mr. Lockhartโ€™s most trusted aides. I learned about them from Madelyn.โ€

Hayden nodded. โ€œIt seems like theyโ€™ve had a falling out.โ€

โ€œWho knows,โ€ Janessa chuckled slyly. โ€œBut we could get in touch with them. We might even win them over, which could be useful in the future.โ€

Hayden felt her words made sense. Although he hadnโ€™t interacted much with Sebastian, hardly anyone in the city didn't know about the Lockhart Groupโ€”a famous financial giant in the country. The CEO at the helm was a figure who inspired awe. At a young age, heโ€™d taken over a vast financial empire. His thinking was bold and innovative; his actions, decisive. He was shrewd in business, outwitting experienced competitors. Under his leadership, the Lockhart Group thrived, advancing the entire finance industry. For such an extraordinary individual, his right-hand men had to be exceptional.

Upon that thought, Hayden asked, โ€œSo, should you butter them up, or should I?โ€

โ€œLet me handle it,โ€ Janessa declared. โ€œMen are less guarded around women. Besides, I have a reason to approach him. Itโ€™s easier for me to break the ice than you.โ€

โ€œAll right,โ€ Hayden agreed.

A sly smile played across Janessaโ€™s face as she descended the stairs. Among the crowd, she nonchalantly held a cocktail, casually strolling before stopping next to Wesley.

โ€œHello, Mr. Gilbert, what a coincidence!โ€ Janessa exclaimed, appearing extremely familiar with him.

Wesley was in a foul mood. He shot her a sidelong glance, his tone unfriendly. โ€œWho are you?โ€ he asked.

Janessa was taken aback but quickly recovered, smiling. โ€œMr. Gilbert, weโ€™ve met before. Iโ€™m Janessa, daughter of the Sherritt family, and a close friend of Madelyn.โ€

โ€œMadelyn?โ€ Wesley huffed. โ€œThat woman again!โ€

Janessa immediately corrected herself. โ€œOh, thatโ€™s all in the past. Iโ€™m no longer friends with Madelyn.โ€

Wesley furrowed his brows. โ€œWhy is that?โ€

Janessa sighed. โ€œBecause she never really considered me a friend.โ€

โ€œOh!โ€ Wesleyโ€™s curiosity grew.

Janessa complained, โ€œIf it werenโ€™t for her meddling, I wouldnโ€™t have been disgraced and expelled from school. For years, I considered her my closest friend, but she treated me like this.โ€ She helplessly shook her head, seeming genuinely pitiful.

Wesley scoffed. โ€œI knew it, that woman is no good.โ€

Janessa swelled with joy. In reality, sheโ€™d only wanted to test the waters, curious about Wesleyโ€™s true feelings toward Madelyn.

Looking back, it was clear Wesley didnโ€™t fancy Madelyn. That made things easier.

Janessa tried to butter him up, saying, โ€œMr. Gilbert, it seems like youโ€™re not very fond of Madelyn either, right?โ€

โ€œSo what if I donโ€™t?โ€ Wesley retorted coldly, not even glancing at Janessa. His haughty demeanor showed his disdain.

Janessa felt awkward but managed a forced smile. โ€œMr. Gilbert, I mean no disrespect. Madelyn is manipulative. I suggest you be cautious with her. Before, she seemed simple and friendly, which is why we became friends. However, since her engagement to Mr. Lockhart, sheโ€™s become a different person, acting strangely and hurting me.โ€ She feigned distress. โ€œIโ€™m really at my witโ€™s end.โ€

Wesleyโ€™s expression changed. He too believed Madelynโ€™s transformation began after their engagement. How could someone so perfectly normal change so drastically? Something was definitely off.

Following that, Wesley dropped his pretenses and began conversing with Janessa.

After a while, they finished their conversation. Wesley smiled. โ€œYour name is Janessa, right? Itโ€™s a pleasure to meet you. I have to leave now. Hope to see you again.โ€

Janessa laughed. โ€œAll right, if I run into you next time, Iโ€™ll treat you to a drink.โ€

โ€œAll right,โ€ Wesley nodded, stood up, and left.

Only seconds later, Wesley vanished. Hayden emerged, his curiosity piqued. โ€œHow did it go?โ€

Janessa laughed lightly. โ€œSmoothly, Iโ€™d say.โ€ They shared a mutual disdain for Madelyn, providing a common topic. Moreover, Janessa was smart. She kept the conversation balanced, preventing awkwardness.

However, Janessa furrowed her brows, expressing frustration. โ€œEven though weโ€™re familiar, Wesley isnโ€™t a fool. If I tried to win him over directly, heโ€™d think Iโ€™m using him and reject me. So, I waited until he dropped his guard.โ€

Hayden nodded slightly. โ€œYou thought it through.โ€

Janessa chuckled. Then, as if something came to mind, she asked, โ€œBy the way, isnโ€™t your friend Kieran pursuing Madelynโ€™s stepsister? Howโ€™s it going?โ€

Hayden sneered. โ€œSeriously? Whatโ€™s so difficult? He spent the night with her on the second day, and now theyโ€™re lovey-dovey, claiming sheโ€™ll never leave him.โ€

โ€œReally?โ€ Janessa laughed. โ€œImpressive.โ€

Hayden laughed, shaking his head helplessly. โ€œThatโ€™s all Kieran knows.โ€

At that moment, Kieran appeared, arm in arm with Eunice, talking and laughing intimately.
