Chapter 344: Do Not Have a Death Wish
โI donโt think thereโs anything I can help you with,โ Madelyn asked tentatively after some thought. She believed it better to be upfront, avoiding Morgana's wrath rather than risking failure later.
Morgana chuckled, her deep, metallic voice echoing. โDo you really think Iโd enlist the help of a useless person? Are you mocking my judgment, or underestimating yourself?โ
โI wouldnโt dare mock you,โ Madelyn immediately lowered her head, her heart skipping a beat in fear. For heavenโs sake, she wouldn't question Morganaโs judgment; she simply lacked faith in her own abilities.
Morgana glanced at Madelyn, discerning her concerns. A subtle smile tugged at her lips as she cryptically said, โDonโt worry. Even if you canโt be of much help, I wonโt kill you to silence you.โ
โReally?โ Madelyn was instantly thrilled. Realizing her rudeness, she quickly composed herself and chuckled drily. โUm, thank you for your magnanimity.โ However, given Morgana's statement, Madelyn couldn't delay any longer.
Steeling herself, she spoke. โAll right then. Could you please let me know how I can assist you? Iโll definitely help as much as I can. However, Iโm just a girl with limited abilities. If itโs beyond my capabilities, Iโm afraid thereโs nothing I can do.โ
Morgana simply stated in a deep voice, โYou will be of help.โ Then, she turned to Phantom. โPhantom, lead the way.โ
โYes,โ Phantom promptly bowed and led the way. Madelyn trailed behind, shocked by Phantom's deference to Morgana; his usual aggression was completely absent. Just how powerful was Morgana?
Next, guided by Phantom, they went to a standalone medical center. Throughout the journey, every subordinate they encountered showed Morgana deep respect, bowing in reverence, further emphasizing her formidable aura. They soon arrived at their destination.
Madelyn felt unfazed by the high-tech medical center, having already seen the base, which resembled a time tunnel. The walls were made of a vacuum aluminum alloy, emitting a faint blue glow. Besides a doctor, several talking robots were inside. Upon seeing Morgana, the robots nodded and greeted, โHello, Boss.โ
However, Morgana ignored them, asking in a frosty tone, โHowโs it going? Is he any better?โ
โUmโฆ,โ the doctor displayed a troubled expression. โBoss, heโs still unconscious.โ
Morgana flew into a rage. โYou good-for-nothing!โ The doctor hastily knelt, bowing his head in apology. โIโm sorry, Boss. Iโve failed you,โ he confessed.
Morgana scoffed coldly and stepped in, ignoring the doctor. The group then navigated through layers of high-tech barriers to a room deep within the medical center.
In the center of the room was a white hospital bed. A man lay on it, clad in a white patientโs robe, his face incredibly pale. Several one-eyed men stood beside the bed.
Seeing the men, each wearing an eye patch and resembling pirates, exuding violence, sent a chill down Madelyn's spine. She remembered their stories from her past life: some blinded by accidents, others by malicious attacks, and some who self-blinded in guilt. It was utterly terrifying.
โSee this man?โ Morganaโs metallic voice sounded. Madelyn looked at the man; even with his pale complexion, his allure rivaled Phantom's. While Phantomโs charm hinted at arrogance, this manโs held a touch of borderline psychosis. Even asleep, he would undoubtedly be captivatingly handsome with a sickly charm. But Madelyn wasn't interested; Sebastian held her heart.
โWhy does he only have one hand?โ Madelyn asked, noticing his missing arm. Even though Morgana's face was concealed and voice processed, Madelyn sensed melancholy in her tone. โHeโs Nightingale. Do you still remember him?โ
Nightingale? Madelyn looked confused. โBoss, she hasnโt heard of Nightingale yet,โ Phantom reminded.
Morgana explained, โYou know that capable assistant of mine you once predicted would lose an arm within two weeks? Thatโs him.โ
โWhat?โ Madelyn was dumbfounded. She remembered; to save herself, sheโd claimed supernatural abilities and prophesied that one of Morgana's two main assistants would lose an arm. To her surprise, her prediction came true.
Madelyn was speechless. She hadn't expected this to happen. She asked, โBut if Iโm not mistaken, itโs been over two months since my prediction. How come heโs still unconscious?โ
Morgana said, โActually, this is precisely whatโs been giving me a headache.โ Madelyn was puzzled.
Morgana explained, disappointment seeping into her cold, metallic voice, โEver since Nightingale was incapacitated, he has been unconscious upon his return. The doctor found a sedative in his system, but the source is unidentified, making complete eradication impossible. Time is running out. If this issue isnโt resolved within a month, Nightingale might never wake up.โ
