Chapter 97: You Are Mine Today

After that, Madelyn returned to the classroom.

At that moment, Ruth strode in with a serious expression on her face. Then, she had everyone flip open their textbooks and begin the lesson like nothing had ever happened.

Madelyn didn’t overthink it. Even though she disliked Ruth, she had to attend the class for the sake of her studies. However, it was clear that she had oversimplified everything.

Ruth first presented a challenging question on a PPT to the class. As a result, not a single student in the class was able to provide an answer.

Ruth turned her gaze toward Madelyn and said, “Madelyn, it’s your turn to answer this question.”

Madelyn was instantly bewildered. She was still diligently reviewing her previous lessons. How could she possibly answer such a difficult question? She couldn’t help but think if Ruth was deliberately making things difficult for her.

In truth, Ruth had done it on purpose because she didn’t expect Madelyn to give a backup of the video to Yadiel. This led to Yadiel pressing for answers, leaving Ruth utterly humiliated! How could she possibly let Madelyn off the hook easily, after all that she had done to her?

Sure enough, Madelyn stared at the challenging problem for quite some time, but she couldn’t come up with an answer. The other classmates nearby also looked perplexed.

“Isn’t this question way too hard?”

“Exactly, this is completely off the charts. I’ve never even seen a question like this before.”

Even Madelyn’s classmates had never encountered such a question, so naturally, Madelyn couldn’t answer it either. In the end, she had no choice but to let out a sigh and admit, “Professor Pierson, I don’t know how to solve this problem.”

Ruth instantly let out a cold laugh, her words dripping with sarcasm as she said, “If you don’t know how to answer, then why don’t you pay attention in class? Do you think you can graduate without having to study? Don’t forget how many credit hours you’re still short of!”

Ruth was clearly just looking for trouble, wasn’t she?

Immediately, Madelyn retorted defensively, “Professor Pierson, when did you see me not paying attention?”

“If you were paying attention, why can’t you answer this question?" Ruth angrily adjusted her glasses.

Madelyn didn’t back down. “If you think I can’t answer this question, feel free to ask anyone else and see who can.”

“You!”

Ruth hadn’t expected Madelyn to be so defiant, which immediately sparked her anger. “You didn’t pay attention in class, and now you even have the audacity to talk back. Are you even a student?”

Amused, Madelyn rolled her eyes. “Seems like you’re just looking for trouble, aren’t you? I’m here, minding my own business and taking notes. Have I bothered you?”

“How dare you talk back?”

Ruth was furious. She immediately pointed toward the door and exclaimed, “Get out of here, and don’t bother coming back for this class!”

“Fine. I’ll leave. It’s not like I’m dying to attend your class anyway.”

With a cold scoff, Madelyn promptly tidied up her things and strode away. Before leaving, Madelyn could still hear Ruth’s angry scolding from behind. “You don’t behave like a student at all. You’re utterly incorrigible!”

Madelyn wore a contemptuous expression on her face. Then, she grabbed her bag and rushed off to Yadiel’s office.

Inside, there was a bed specifically designed for people to rest. Last night, Madelyn’s hand was aching, which resulted in a restless night. She thought it might be best to catch up on some sleep.

Naturally, Yadiel agreed. He drew the curtains and allowed her to go in to sleep.

Madelyn simply laid down, only then realizing that the curtain was quite extraordinary. It was impossible to see inside from the outside, but from the inside, the outside could be seen faintly.

Seeing Yadiel quietly working at his desk, Madelyn felt at ease and laid down to sleep. She slept for a full two hours. By the time noon arrived, she finally managed to rouse herself from a state of grogginess.

So, she planned to step out and bring back some food to eat together. However, Ruth suddenly arrived at that moment.

She walked in with several meal boxes and cheerfully said, “Yadiel, I’ve brought some delicious food. Let’s have a meal together. Please, don’t turn me down again. I just want to thank you for keeping my secret and treat you to a meal. Plus, I’ve put a lot of effort into making all of this myself. Do me a favor and join me, will you?”

Saying so, she placed the lunch boxes she was holding on the table.

Upon seeing the situation, Yadiel immediately replied coldly, “No need. If you truly wish to thank me, just bring back that wronged student as soon as possible.”

Upon hearing those words, a wave of embarrassment washed over Ruth’s face. Nonetheless, she persisted, “Don’t worry, Yadiel. I’ll figure something out for that student. I’ll make sure she gets back to her studies.”

“I really want to thank you, that’s why I’m inviting you to dinner. Since I’m already here, can you at least eat a little?” Ruth pleaded to Yadiel.

Without thinking, Yadiel glanced back at the curtain. Suddenly, Madelyn’s words from earlier came to mind. He knew he had to deal with Ruth first.

After a moment of hesitation, he agreed, “All right then.”

Seeing his agreement, Ruth was immediately filled with joy. Then, she opened up the meal boxes one by one excitedly. Suddenly, a delightful aroma filled the air, engulfing the entire office with the scent of delicious food.

At this point, Madelyn was already fully awake. Upon catching a whiff of the rich aroma, an involuntary smirk formed at the corner of her mouth. She thought to herself that Ruth really knew how to stir up trouble.

However, since they were about to dine together, it wouldn’t be appropriate for her to intrude. So, she simply decided to lie still and close her eyes, intending to continue her sleep. Perhaps it was due to extreme exhaustion, but after a short while, she found herself drifting back into sleep.

Just as she was about to drift into her dreams, there was a crisp sound all of a sudden. It sounded like the clatter of metal hitting the ground!

Madelyn was instantly jolted awake.

After the door was shut, the light disappeared, making it hard to see clearly. And so, Madelyn slightly lifted a corner of the curtain.

Looking through the small gap, she noticed a stainless steel spoon that had fallen to the ground. At this point, Yadiel was sprawled helplessly across the table. He was evidently unconscious.

Madelyn’s heart skipped a beat! Then, she saw Ruth giving a sly smile.

She reached out, gently caressing Yadiel’s cheek with a gaze that held a somewhat sickly infatuation.

“Yadiel, you truly are handsome, do you know that? I’ve wanted you for the longest time. Every time I dream, it’s always filled with images of us together. However, I didn’t expect that you’d actually side with Madelyn against me! I really don’t get it. What’s so great about that silly, reckless girl that you have to protect her like this?”

Ruth paused and chuckled to herself before continuing, “But it’s all right. As long as you become mine, I can pretend as if nothing ever happened…”
